If you enjoy the peace of a cemetery, this honorable resting place of our military veterans and their families is beautiful, albeit sad that it is growing so quickly. I drive through and sometimes sit to just thank all those who have served, reading and wondering about what they experienced. It is still under construction, with major access roads being built for it, but it is still beautiful.

My Brother-in-Law was buried here in July and it was my first time at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies. I was speechless! What a fitting tribute to those who have served our country. Because of there sacrifices, we enjoy our freedom. I only wish I would have thanked him personally while I had the chance. These brave Men and Women paved the way for us to live the lives we do. Make some time, visit for the day and honor these true heroes for what they have given us.

...give anything less than an excellent rating for this place? All these men, women, and their spouses served in the military and are here together - whoa... leaves me breathless. I feel sort of diminished even though I probably wore a uniform longer than the vast majority of them. I really don't know what any of them did while they were in, but I'm sure it couldn't be less than me. You know, I'm walking around here kind of dazed-out about the epidemic. I don't call it pandemic; epidemic sounds more scary to this 59 years old ex-smoker. Well... whatever, you know so I try to look at these symbols like "the cross" engraved in mostly everyone's stone at the top of it. Actually well over 90% are a common cross - there are other different crosses too like DaVinci Code/Freemasonry kind of stuff I'm thinking - no really I'm clueless about that nonsense so... I'm kinda focused on the stones don't have a cross on it. And I'm mostly interested in the Star of David; I saw about a dozen or so of them. There are two of a man and a woman right next to each other with the same surname and similar ages in the Columbarium area. She was an officer, and he was an enlisted man with a Purple Heart. I'm fictionalizing she was in the field hospital nursing him back to health from the wounds he got for his Purple Heart; they fell in love, grew old together, and played with their grandchildren is the rest of the story. Actually, I really want to find something recognizably Buddhist: like a mandala wheel or a mudra (hand gesture) or maybe just a little lotus flower - haven't yet. In the two times I've come here this week, I saw only two stones with Muslim Star & Crescents. Good! I'm happy to see them here. I'm wondering if their offshoot has had it rough since 911, if so here is proof they don't deserve it. Bunch of etched hearts instead of anything religious is also popular on some stones - hey I"ve uploaded plenty of pics. This place is about 20 minutes from where I'm hunkered down for the outbreak, and I'm sure I'll be back. Can't stay in the apartment all day, and got to get fresh air and a little exercise every day. I can't think a place in the area right now where I'll be around better people that won't infect me with anything. Dan - lotus.

My dear Mom and Dad, a WWII US Navy veteran are resting here. Just visited on a most recent visit to my old Pittsburgh hometown. Beautiful final resting place and well maintained. Staff is superb. May God Bless all those who are still serving in harm's way...

If you want to teach your children to respect what it takes to honor this country and show a small part of the amount of blood shed for our flag and country and why every one should stand for the national anthem....this is the place to go !

I saw many white graves. It was pretty to wall of pillars. I got to see two friends that died burry there. There are three pavilion to sit under and watch the flag swag. It was difficult to find it. The landmark of information booth did not have a sign saying come in here.

My grandfather, a WWII veteran and Pearl Harbor survivor and grandmother, an English war bride were laid to rest there recently. The grounds, staff, and services were amazing. My family and I were truly touched by their generosity. Many thanks!

It's an interesting setup. I'm not sure if all national cemeteries are the same, since this is the only one I've visited personally for a funeral, but it was definitely very different than the standard service at a cemetary. Some of that was good and some was bad. Thankfully, we're not the kind of people who visit grave sights, since all the graves look exactly the same (which I know is a national cemetery thing) and getting to the right location would be much like finding a brick at Walt Disney World.
