Wow! Great guided tour of an incredible collection. They play all the items or let you play them, so you can hear what it sounded like. I knew a few of these things existed, but it was an eye (and ear) opening experience, for sure.

Debence Antique Music World was a really pleasant surprise! I went in thinking it would be a nice time, but I really underestimated this place. The guided tour blew me away, and each item they played was incredibly interesting and fun to listen to. They have plenty of traditional items like phonographs and large self-playing pieces, but they also had a lot of whimsical pieces like the wizard conjuring items from his hat, the dancing geisha girl, and the large amusement park pieces to name a few. I was with a group of adults, but I think kids would have had a lot of fun too.

If you're in town, try to catch the guided tour! The volunteers are incredibly knowledgable and passionate about the collection. If you have an interest, they'll gladly give you a heck of a tour!

Also, they switch the music out for different seasons or holidays like Christmas. If you go and enjoy it, consider coming back another time for a different experience.

We stopped by chance and were "blown away" by the experience. The tour was excellent and the collection is second to none. Highly recommend a visit.

A large group of us from Erie toured here recently. All I can say is "WOW" THREE floors of antique pianos, radios, record players, music boxes, mouth organs, and so much else. There are many players pianos, antique bicycles. Plan to spend a lot of time there!

I work for a player piano company and I sometimes take for granted how cool and unique some of these things are. Oddly enough my favorite pieces here aren't the piano related ones but rather the music boxes, race machine and the animated wizard.
If you have never visited them, go. If you already have, go again.

Our tour guide, Vince, was excellent! This place is amazing with many one-of-a-kind music boxes, player pianos, orchestrion, phonographs and so much more!!! And they work!!! Smithsonian worthy pieces. I wish we had planned more time—1.5 hrs was not enough. We appreciated our tour guide staying past closing time to accommodate us! There were so many great pictures to relate to the historical period. Thanks for a great afternoon in Franklin.

More than 250 antique musical instruments. The tour is about 1 hr. Our guide was very knowledgable about the instrument, telling us about its origin and then playing it for us. There is also a museum in the basement that is free.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to DeBence Antique Music World. We went on a Friday afternoon and were given a wonderful tour of the DeBence collection, complete with many demonstrations. The volunteer docents were very knowledgeable and answered all of our questions and were very accommodating, finding instruments that would interest our son, and even allowed him the opportunity to play several. As others have mentioned, you may walk around on a self-guided tour for free, or pay a very modest fee (amount varies depending on your age) for a guided
tour (well worth the $ to hear the fascinating stories behind the instruments). Well worth the trip if you are traveling through Pennsylvania.

This collection is incredible in its variety and function. As our guide, Scotty, said, "Everything you see here is playable, just ask if you want to hear any of them, but don't pick too many unless you want to miss your dinner!"

The museum is lovingly housed in a beautifully restored GC Murphy 5 and 10 cent store front. To bring the store up to code, volunteers spent hundreds of hours installing modern bathrooms and an elevator. Now, the building is fully accessible and you can see the entire collection without any steps.

There are several different kinds of music devices on display. A guided tour with a $8 ticket gets you an hour long tour of the first (ground) floor. Our guide, Scotty, was a treasure trove of information on all the instruments. He knew all the relevant and interesting facts about each piece, what song was playing, how it was donated, and he even participated in many of the restorations himself. Plus he presented the information in a way that made every piece interesting and exciting because every piece had a story. Scotty made those stories come alive in a way that made you eager to see the piece operate - through trials, and sometimes against the odds, these pieces made it to the museum, were restored, and are still around after 100 or more years to entertain you.

The tour begins with a review of music boxes from "drums" built between the mid 1800's to the early 1900's, and "disks" made up to the 1950's. We were amazed to see the "climax achievement" in the music box world in a priceless heirloom piece that stood four feet wide and six feet high and which had a whole library of extra disks to choose from. The story of how the museum acquired this priceless piece which was once a wedding gift was enough to bring tears to everyone's eyes.

The next part of the tour covers grammaphones and vinyl turntables. Scotty explained how and why each had been invented and marketed and the companies innovations as well as why each went into and out of business in what was once a highly competitive market.

The third part of the tour was large orchestra machines much like you'd see on a merry-go-round with a brief stop to take a look at accordions and street organs and a chance to try it yourself. Scotty had personally participated in the restoration of one of the largest pieces and his story of how his team had done years of meticulous detective work to understand how to replace missing parts and make everything match up was made so much more immediate and riveting because he could start it up and we could watch it work and listen to the sound of their success.

The last part of the guided tour covered player pianos and nickelodeons. Again, like with records, the market for these was highly competitive and featured interesting innovations, once again Scotty made them all unique and interesting.

Finally, the guided tour over, we were invited to view collections in the basement and second floor. In the basement, many of the restored machines could be played for a quarter, and the tour was self guided.

We did not have time to go up to the second floor, but we did take a look at the small gift shop which was filled with gifts as unique and interesting as the museum.

If you have any interest in history, or music, or both, you'll love this museum. Kids can touch a lot of things and grind the organ themselves - while very young children would be bored, any child who has started school will likely find the museum interesting.

Highly recommended.
