We were just visiting here to fill some gaps in our schedule and we are so glad that we did! We were greeted promptly at the door by the friendly staff. We discovered that we did not have time to see the life-size replica of the Tabernacle that day, but we did have time for a free 20 minute movie/documentary on the history and life of the Amish and Mennonite people. The movie was very informative and interesting. They have some displays upstairs as well as a large souvenir and gift shop that was extremely well stocked. We returned the following day for the Tabernacle experience and we're not disappointed! It was $10 per person and it started with an introduction by a guide before entering into the Tabernacle area. Go see this display, you won't regret it!

I absolutely loved visiting the Tabernacle! The person leading the tour was very friendly and knowledgeable. I was really in aww over being there. Wanted to visit for two years now.

Wonderful information on the local Mennonite and Amish. Even though we have been to the area many times we still learned about aspects of their culture we were unaware of. We also visited the Biblical Tabernacle Reproduction while there. Excellent reproduction and worth the cost to see the Bible come to life.

I have read on this before, but never had the time to visit. They have a replica of the Tabernacle. It really nice, made very well and lovely. you have a guide, but the don't talk. Its a recording you hear. Its about 40min or so.

The Mennonite Information Center is a great place to learn about the Mennonite and Amish community. In past years I have taken classes to learn the Amish language, which is a fusion language and a fraktur class. We also went on one of their local bus tours. We always enjoy their Christmas sale where local artists sell their handcrafted German art.

The info center is a mix of excellent parts. The staff either knows or can find any info you need to have a great visit. The gift shop is like a gallery of beautiful craftsmanship and art from around the world. Don't miss the spectacular views in the movie on the lower level. Despite having visited Lancaster county my whole life, here is where I learned the differences between Amish and Mennonite. Yes, there's an elevator.

This is no ta Disneyland or even Amish Farm and House, both of which do have a place for tourists; however, this is a more scholarly venue particularly valuable for those whose ancestors first settled in the Lancaster County area, those millions of descendants who are interested in understanding the whys and wherefores of their original Anabaptist emigrants. The gift shop is for customers who appreciate genealogical sources and artisan creations. Tacky, touristy souvenirs are not found here.

As Peter said, the center itself is not much. A small museum, some short films, and a gift shop. And they’ll answer some general questions. But this is where you hire a guide to take you into the Amish country. And that is totally worth it. They ride in your car and take you to places and tell you all about the history of Lancaster and surrounding areas.
I would advise calling ahead to book the tour, so they will have someone ready for you.

Ask for a guide through the Mennonite Information Center. They are proficient in explaining the lifestyle and beliefs of the Mennonites/Pennsylvania Dutch. Most important, they can guide you to the places of interest and avoid the tacky tourist traps that have popped up in the area.
Lancaster itself can be a bit of a disappointment, but has some nice places for dinner and lodging.

No, the Mennonite Information Center does not offer ancestry services. The building beside them houses the Lancaster Mennonite Historical Society, and they have resources for doing ancestry research.

The guide will advise you when you can take photos and when you can't. The Amish don't approve of photos of themselves, but if you are far enough away it might be all right.
