Very interesting place for PA history! We had a great time here. Spent a good 2-3 hourswondering around the center. Entertaining for youg teens to adult. Young kids 6 and under my be a struggle. But it was great. Would recommend.

I was under the impression that this museum would only highlight Heinz products. While they did give the history of the company there is much more to see here. For one, do not miss how the building is constructed on the inside. I believe it would be difficult to find beams/lumber as big as the ones used to hold up the interior of the building. There are galleries involving glass, American history, and more! One of the better locations I visited.

I came for the Ketchup and stayed for the rest of the museum.
I was surprised with the amount of memorabilia and artifacts that this History Center had to offer. I wanted to come here so I could see the exhibit on Ketchup, but spent about 2 hours walking around all the other exhibits that they had on display. There is a vast amount of history to walk through ranging from sports to wars, the museum really has a bit of everything. It is a great location and allows you to then walk to many other attractions as well. While I was hoping for more of the Ketchup/Heinz history, the other parts of the center did make for a good impression. I don't know if I would take kids here and expect them to be entertained, but for adults, I think it is a great way to spend the afternoon.

This is a great museum. A few of the exhibits (innovation) feel more like adverts than exhibits, but if you can get past that, there is a whole lot here to see. Everything from French, British, Indian (Native American) war to death of John Heinz to glassmaking to art of John Kane. Formats as varied as video, walk on trolley, to art on the walls.

Not only the history of Heinz...but also the history of steelmaking, of diversity and its challenges, many of the "faces" of the Burgh!

This is an American history museum with an emphasis on Western Pennsylvania. Beautiful museum inside a former ice storage building. Interior is wonderful old heart pine beams and brick. Displays cover many, many topics and change frequently. Friendly staff. Lots for children.

This museum offers a very eclectic variety of exhibits ranging from sports to the French and Indian War, glassware, Mr. Rogers, the Heinz company, and Pittsburgh's history in innovation (I needed more on steel production, but I quibble).
Kid friendly. Small cafe with somewhat limited selection but great prices. Good museum shop.

I think this place could have alot to offer, but the exhibits need more explanation. If I weren't from PA, I wouldn't get half the people. It's neat that a museum like this exists, but they need to take a hard look at the communication. The Westinghouse exhibit and miniature room were exceptions. The staff in the railroad room was amazing.
Our visit was colored by the fact that we paid to go and it was a free day for people that had PMC or some insurance. It was crowded for no reason--those people just wanted free food. Had we been told upon entrance they were having the event, we would have come another day. I hope they advise guests in the future if that is the case.

Standouts include: the Mr. Rogers' exhibits, the athletes who shaped the history of Pittsburgh sports, and the giant tower of Heinz.

If I remember correctly it was $10 to park. You could call the Heinz History Center to confirm. 412-454-6000. Have a great time! Do the pickle pin challenge!

I would like to know if the boat that Henry J Heinz sank in the Allegheny river with all of the supplies that his competitors could not purchase or get their hands on is still there or if it was later raised?

I can’t say I’ve heard of this boat, and didn’t see anything at the history center about it. There is so much to see there, it is worth the visit. Maybe one of the docents or staff would know more.
