This vineyard is, unsurprisingly, the exact vineyard where Thomas Jefferson grew – or tried to grow – grapes for wine. It’s about a 4-minute drive from Monticello (though we have to remember that the Monticello estate when Jefferson owned it was absolutely massive, at several thousand acres, or about 8sq mi.). The place offers a great selection of wines to drink by the glass, bottle, or tasting flight. The snack box you can get to accompany the wine(s) may seem quite expensive, just a captive audience price, but once you actually look at the quantity and quality of cheese, jam, and crackers that come in the box, it’s not unreasonable at all. Though the wine tasting flights seem to be rigid, you can switch out one wine for another (the flights are all the same price). There’s great outdoor seating and the place is kid-friendly and amenable to leashed, well-behaved dogs. There’s plenty of parking, too. They can package wines sold by the bottle if necessary, and they might ship, too. The only downside is that they don’t have water from a fountain that they can fill in cups for guests; you have to buy bottled water. One word of advice: the roads nearby are beautiful, but they are narrow, curvy, and hilly, so be extra careful and do not leave the place if you are buzzed or drunk!

Very beautiful vineyard and the flower garden is amazing! It's a goal of mine to visit all of the vineyards in Virginia, so I've been working threw them a bit at a time. My husband and I stopped here on our way back from the beach. The wine was good and the staff was friendly. I'd return.

I like sweet wines and this is the only vineyard in the area that had some choices. The guy that waited on us was so cute, I really enjoyed talking with him. They even had a dessert wine, with good prices. Amazingly, they let you taste the wine!!! I am use to being able to taste wine before purchasing it, that’s how the Michiganders do it.

Jefferson is another vineyard that has standard flights. you don't pick from a list of things you might like to try. I had a red flight. The fellow who poured my flight was very friendly but didn't have anything to say about the wines. The older fellow who had some knowledge was disinclined to speak to me. "Anything else?" were his only words when I brought the empty glasses back in. They were not busy. The wines weren't bad, but they were mediocre compared to the other wineries I visited during my four day stay in Charlottesville. The only winery where I didn't purchase any bottles.

Our first stop on our winery visits. This is a smaller winery. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our shared tasting outside at a table overlooking the garden area. A nice selection of wines.

get here early! it's a winery so expect people.
The staff were all very friendly and knowledgeable of their products. they offer a good variety of wines, to me most of them lacked character. they just seemed to be cookie cutter versions of themselves.
the overall experience was good... but It's a winery, and they get docked a point for ok wine.

Staff was knowledgeable about their wines and took the time to explain them. The facilities were not among the best.

We appreciate your kind words regarding our staff and their wine knowledge. We take pride in knowing about wine given our rich history. Our boutique winery is on a smaller scale and thus focuses on more intimate experiences rather than hosting larger crowds. Except on busy weekends.

Really nice winery around the cornern from Monticello. Nice staff and wines (Cythhia our server did a great job telling us about the history of the place and pouring our wines for us). Favorite wine was the 2019 Meritage. It was a breezy day but the indoor room was open and very comfortable. Bringing your own snacks/picnic is allowed. Will definitely go again during our next visit to C-ville.

I’m planning on visiting this summer with my family and wondering if it would be appropriate for my 7 & 9 year old daughters to tag along? I haven’t seen any reviews that mention if it is a family friendly environment?

It would be ok to bring children but it can get kind of boring for little ones. If you pack a picnic and bring frisbees, soccer balls etc, they would enjoy the trip. Imagine being 9 and watching a bunch of adults sipping wine for hours on end. Would you have fun? LOL

We've taken our little guy several times. We usually hold him while we're tasting, but I've seen other dogs just on leashes. We just hold ours because he doesn't always have great manners when he's in small spaces... he likes to be bossy. Outside, he LOVES running through the hilly grassy areas- we obviously keep him leashed and are running with him.
