We walked the first three days of this very pleasant hike through the Ardennes area of Belgium.
This was a self guided walk arranged through World Walks via a local company called Europ Adventures.
The hikes are about 22 - 26 kilometres/day. You walk mainly on rough roads, tracks and some tarred roads from village to village. You stay at hotels at night with dinner and breakfast included.
The trail is marked and together with a map and sometimes difficult to follow instructions you find your way.
You pass by agricultural fields, fields with livestock, through beautiful forests with flowing streams and quaint hamlets. The tracks were in part muddy. Good walking boots would be advisable. The degree of difficulty I would rate as easy to moderate. Yes can shorten some hikes if desired.
La Roche, where the hike starts,is a very pretty town worth exploring.
This is a very beautiful area of Belgium in which to walk and appreciate. We thought the 3 days was enough as the countryside doesn't vary enormously.

Dit stuk van de Transardennaise loopt grotendeels over brede en deels verharde paden wat een beetje jammer is daar dit niet zo lekker loopt. Geef mij maar onverharde wegjes. Dat loopt veel prettiger.

I walked part of the trail from st martin to daverdisse over 4 days. I had wanted to see the forests of western Europe.
The trail utilises a combination of old abandoned roads, forestry roads, country lanes and public roads.
It is very well marked and the walk map is very good. I did not enjoy the sections on public roads as they tend to be narrow and vehicle speeds high. Fortunately there is only a few kilometers like this.
The walk is quite easy with each day being a 20 to 30 km leg. There are no very difficult sections and just a few relatively short steep grades ie
I used b&b and auberge along the way but there are some camping areas and then there are the Belgian camping rules- no camping in public areas, but the fine is a few euro and rarely policed.
Do not go Oct to Nov as this is the hunting season and most trails will be closed. Forests are mostly closed at night in September to allow for undisturbed rutting of the deer.
Carry water with you as most legs only start and end with a town and the surface water along the way passes through farmland.
The walks take you through a mixture of farmland and forest. There are not many people who walk this path, I saw perhaps 1 other walker a day.
