I live a block away from this small forest. It's one of my favorite places to walk through. You are truly transported quickly into a lush, beautiful forest while walking on sawdust. It's peaceful and quiet and you can hear a woodpecker hard at work. There are benches placed throughout so that you can sit in solace and take advantage of this little oasis. It's small but mighty! I usually walk part of the Cushman Trail which goes right by this forest, then I walk through the forest, down to the main rain with tremendous water views of Puget Sound and then over to the quaint and charming town of Gig Harbor and around the Harbor, enjoying the majestic views of Mount Rainier, boats, boutique shops, restaurants and parks along the way. It's wonderful!

We took this route down the hill from our hotel to the harbor. It was magic! A quiet sawdust path deadened our footsteps, and the dark green evergreens and freshly-budded leaves on the deciduous trees were breathtaking. It's a short walk. Do it.

This little pocket of forest surrounded by the community of Gig Harbor is a wonderful oasis that has the feel of deep woods. Located by the Gig Harbor Civic Center, it is a handy alternate route for the nearby Cushman trail that runs through Gig Harbor following the power line right of way. The Cushman trail follows sidewalks in this section past businesses. Signs direct the detour to the forest park so you can take a loop through the park as part of the trail. Once you get onto the forest trails it feels like you are in the deep woods. The trails dip down and up and are interconnected so you can get an amount of trail walking or running that is surprisingly ample for this fairly small patch of woods. I have found geocaches in this park, but I'm not sure if any are still active there.
There is a bathroom at the beginning of the trails that is well maintained. The nearby urban park where there is a skateboard park and playground has tables where you can rest or picnic, and there is a Burger King and teriyaki across from that park. A major Bus stop and park and ride are also located nearby.

Gig Harbor provides Mutt Mits. Nice Puget Sound views. In October, lovely fall colors. There are both paved walkways and trails. Mostly shady and beautiful.
