This park is located in a beautiful setting with nice lakeside camp spots and restrooms nearby the campsites with free hot water shower! We enjoyed our stay in the south end campground. There are kayaks for rent on the other side of the lake but we brought our own. A lap around the whole lake , including a little diversion into the lagoon, did not take a huge amount of effort and was very enjoyable. Seeing the seemingly natural bonsai tree on the opposite end of the lake was a nice surprise.
The campground also seemed to be well-staffed. The bathrooms were always clean!

This park is a gem. It has many hiking trails and the lake is wonderful. The Puget Sound is too cold to swim, but in August this lake is perfect. What a fun day to spend the day in the water, but away from the sea.

We had a fam reunion Aug 23 at Camp Moran. Wonderful place. Commercial kitchen. Dublexes w comfortable mattresses & bathrooms. We enjoyed hiking trails, waterfalls, mountain lake swimming, cascade lake kayaking & jumping from bridge, Mt constitution.
Swimming /dock area south cascade lake had seaweed and foul odor. We enjoyed swimming elsewhere in the lake and mountain lake was divine. Highly recommend moran state park.

This is a large and beautiful park. There is swimming at Cascade Lake and a playground area. There are many hiking trails, but we drove to Constitution Point as we were short on time. Climbed the tower for really good views of the area. Had lunch at a cafe in the park but unfortunately, I don't remember its name. There is sketchy cell service so if you need to meet up with anyone get your details straight before you arrive.

We did something in Moran State Park every day of our 2 weeks on Orcas Island. I hiked most of the trails, which are varied in scenery and range from easy to difficult. We also biked up to the summit a few times, and that's always exhilarating. We saw bald eagles and a piebald deer during our ascents on the bike. The stand up paddleboarding on Mountain Lake was also just great. Can't wait to get back here.

Beautiful state park. We hiked little summit to mount constitution. There is little parking at the trail heads but a lot at the fire tower. We also did a few waterfall trails that were beautiful and easy. Check alltrails for good recommendations

We took a walk around cascade lake - 2.7 miles mostly flat ok for kids and seniors but may be challenging in a few places if you have any knee or walking issues. Took an hour and was the highlight of the park it was so cloudy that we didn’t drive up to the point but had a nice lunch at Rosario resort- a little chilly at first but warmed up and took of layers as I walked

Hike around Mountain Lake. Kayaks, paddle boards and swimming available. Wish I would have brought a swimsuit. Water was warm!

After entering the park and you head toward Mount Constitution it will only be a few miles. Once you walk to the top which is only 100 feet away from your car you will be unable to speak. 2400 feet in the air you will see several islands and some of Canada. It will be the most breathtaking site you will ever see. You overlook the San Juan Islands. I have been to many places and have done so many adventures in my life, this site tops them all as I could not speak. You will be closer to the Almighty here than any place on earth. Enjoy, and do not miss this!

Nice state park with a variety of hikes along lakes, through the forest, up the mountain top or to 4 waterfalls. Make sure you drive up to Mt Constitution! Great views and interesting tower with how it was designed and made and maps showing what mountains, islands, and sights you are looking at.

Can a 67 year old, semi-fit (can walk 6 miles briskly) lone woman, do the entire loop herself? Is safety or bear attack an issue? Are regular running shoes adequate or hiking boots required? What kind of weather can this Florida lady expect? Any/all info is welcomed - & thanks!

The roads can be narrow and windy without much sight distance and drivers have to deal with alternating sun and shade, so be cautious if walking on the road.

Can someone explain the best strategy for visiting the San Juan islands and which parks in particular you recommend?
Đã viết vào 25 tháng 9, 2016
It depends on the "vibe" you're looking for. Orcas and Lopez are quieter places than San Juan, based on their main towns. I'd recommend renting a cottage, stocking up at the local market and then doing a bunch of day tripping. On Orcas, try a guided kayak tour with the folks at Shearwater, in Eastsound. There's a lot do do, nature-wise, in Moran State Park, and a neat store and concessions trailer at mountain top. On San Juan, spend some time in Lime Kiln State Park. Avoid Roche Harbor unless you're a serious sailor or a powerboater. People often take bikes to Lopez because it's the least hilly of the islands. Don't think you must visit all three islands unless you have at least a full week. Ferries between the islands run often but it still takes a good chunk of time.

I visited Moran a few weeks ago and I would really love to camp there over Labor Day Weekend. At the moment, there aren't any reservable campsites on the state parks website and I know it's a busy weekend...Do I have a snowball's chance of a getting a first-come, first-serve site? Which sites do I have the best chance at?

This was my first visit so I am not able to answer which sites. Our site was 39, and it was last to be taken. Apparently it was too sunny. Coming from Texas I laughed. The high was in the 70's when we were there. If its first come, I would arrive a day early. Just a thought.

Can you recommend some of the best camping sites in Moran State Park? Preferably with good showers and baths. Thank you
Đã viết vào 2 tháng 11, 2015
The South End campsites are the most popular, and have nice (enough) bathroom facilities. They're popular because many of them have their own private lake access from the campsite. You have to book them well in advance though - like now for next summer. If they are all booked for the dates you want, though, don't give up. People book them now, then end up cancelling as the dates get closer for various reasons. Just keep checking back periodically. The North End sites are okay too. They also have decent bathroom facilities, and are close to the public beach area, which is fun.

Can you drive all the way to the top of Mount Constitution or is there hiking involved?
Đã viết vào 15 tháng 3, 2015
You can drive all the way up. At the top is a parking lot and bathrooms and a very short walk up an incline to the tower at the top. You can also hike up and back down if you are so inclined. The road up the mountain looks like an access road and only has one little sign to let you know to head up it. And it has lots of hairpin turns. It's worth the drive.
