The New York Public Library is a fantastic monumental building. The architecture is brilliant. This is a visit you will not want to miss.

Siamo potuti stare poco, ma l'atmosfera è unica. Consiglio di verificare prima come è possibile entrare nelle stanze. Gli studenti sono avvantaggiati. Essendo un luogo di studio e pensiero al turista cuorioso sono posti più ostacoli per la visita.

L’imponente ed iconico ingresso, con i “Leoni” a presidiare l’entrata vale già di per sé la visita, che diventa ancor più eccezionale se proseguita all’ingresso (libero, ed è una delle poche cose visitabili a New York senza dover pagare…). Presente in moltissimi film e serie tv, molte delle sale sono visitabili pur se viene ovviamente richiesto il mantenimento del silenzio per rispetto a coloro che sono all’interno a studiare e lavorare. Segnalo che su Madison Avenue e nella 41th street che portano alla Libreria sono incastonate nei marciapiedi delle targhe con citazioni da alcune delle più importanti opere letterarie della storia, veramente originali, mentre il retro dell’edificio dà direttamente sul meraviglioso Bryant Park.

The library is an iconic building on the outside and has treasures to explore on the inside. The free display of valuable artefacts was beautifully presented and well worth a visit, but unlike other reviewers we found that we couldn’t visit other parts of the library such as the reading room. Great shop though.

If you are lucky enough to bag a spot on this free tour you are so very blessed. Gloria, our docent was incredible, her mind, knowledge, passion and enthusiasm were incredible, I wanted to scoop her off for lunch and listen to her for hours and hours. This place is spectacular, what is holds, the history, the exhibitions, how you feel when you are in there - this tour gives you an insight that is very special; highlight of my NYC trip.

Much better than I was expecting. Famous building for the numerous movie scenes it is featured in and yet it is much more. The architecture is beautiful and definitely worth a visit. Unfortunately we do a tour so missed visiting the main reading room.

We did a self guided audio tour which was great - it’s a magnificent building with interesting history! If you have time book Docent tour they’re free!

E’ ovviamente il posto migliore dove rifugiarsi nel caso di una glaciazione globale. Speravo di poter visitare la sala principale che si vede nel film ma è frequentabile solo per la consultazione e ricerca. Imponente ed iconico l’esterno, maestoso l’interno con l’atrio principale e le sale interne. Ingresso libero ma c’è poca coda.

Stunning architecture and a true homage to the history of New York City - a must-see! Seek out the old phone booths adjacent to the restrooms and the Treasures Room, home to the original Bill of Rights and the stuffed animals upon which A.A. Milne based his "Winnie the Pooh" characters.

The Library appears to be currently closed. The website seems to indicate some limited access to branches for “grab and go”
No tours or use of the reading rooms are currently possible. WATCH THE WEBSITE FOR UPDATES

Hi Betsy. There weren't any organised tours, but visitors can wander from room to room and view the library and the mutuals. Well worth a visit. Merry Christmas. Phil

From what I can see The Library opens usual hours on 7/3 and closed 7/4. Can anyone confirm this is correct, also is all the Library ie shop open or do parts

When the library is closed for any holiday, all of it is closed. Independence Day is a very important holiday for us, so it makes sense for the library to close early on the eve of the holiday.

I think it was about 2 hours. They have you arrive 30 minutes early, but we stood around until time to go. There are a set amount of tickets, so they do fill, but being there early didn't really affect that. It was interesting, though and I would recommend the tour.

There is an entire room dedicated to children’s books, often with its own exhibits that are relate to to children- when I was there in October it was the original Winnie the Pooh. Many kids all over of many ages
