We've spent many a day on this beach. Gentle surf, sandy bottom, great little rocky point to snorkel around. One of most beautiful beaches on Maui. If you're staying at Ekahi, easy, private access. Small public parking lot with access. Fills early.

This beach was about 15 minutes from where we stayed but it had good reviews. There is a large parking lot next to Days Inn with plenty of beach access parking. Clear waters, pretty sand, some rock outcrops where ther was good snorkeling. Lots of people watching. There were showers but bathroom was pita potty

Mornings and sunsets! Windy in the afternoon. Sandy , not rocky for swimming areas, a rocky outcrop is perfect for snorkeling on one end. There is public parking and entry here as well- this comes with a few local characters- homeless? But seemingly harmless. This beach fronted our condo complex and we found we didn’t need to go to other beaches, we loved it. Good for swimming and long walks.

Our condo was across from Kam 3 where we spent most of our time, but was also walking distance to Keawakapu, so we spent a day here. It is a long beach, and narrow at the northern end. So finding a spot, even at 9 am, was challenging. Snorkeling was great, once you got past the throngs of people. Healthy corals and fish life. Lots of eels. Turtles swim by regularly.

I am fortunate to be a regular visitor to Maui. I have been to many beaches around the island and have found Keawakapu to be my favorite for several reasons. Like so many of Maui's beaches, it is a long, slightly curved sweep of sand. At one end is a grassy area with palm trees providing a bit of shade in front of the Mana Kai Resort. It is okay to use this space as well as the freshwater shower, but not the lounge chairs which are for resort guests of course. Keawakapu is great for swimming, beginner body surfing, and a nearby cluster of rocks also makes it a great snorkeling spot when the conditions are right. The water is usually clear and the bottom is sandy so no worries about stepping on something sharp, ie. sea urchin. During whale season, you can often see the whales right from shore or get a closer look on a paddle board. There's ample parking in a gravel parking lot near the resort, as well as at the intersection of Kilohana and S. Kihei Rd. If you park at the latter spot, a small trail leads between properties to the beach. The only thing lacking at this beach is a decent bathroom facility. There is only a porta-potty in the parking lot. Take note that it is usually best to go in the morning before Makena cloud covers the sky and/or the wind sets in.

Our condo was oceanfront to this beautiful beach. Took many
walks, swam and watched the green sea turtles here. The sunsets were always gorgeous and varied. Be careful as
there are no lifeguards if you get far out form the shore.

Muy bonita playa para pasar una mañana tomando el sol y un buen baño. Sin duda la zona de Wailea tiene las mejores playas de Maui.

Looking at these reviews after visiting, I’m surprised it’s ranked so high. I went with friends and we all did not like this beach. The vibe of the people was very off, it was right next to Days Inn. There was homeless people walking around. One even commented on my friends choice of hat and her towel. Another had binoculars and was looking at my friend in the water with them. Creep. A group of elderly were playing some music in a category I don’t even think exists. And the people next us were smoking pot if that bothers you at all. Will forever be perplexed and astounded by the amount of good reviews this beach has. Instead go to Ulua beach which is close by and much better.

A great beach for walking and swimming. Nice and long so people can spread out. The day we visited was very windy (trade winds in the afternoon) and we could see that people that liked to boogie board were having a great time. We walked the length of the beach to the hotels where the wind seemed to be the strongest. In the mornings, or a less windy day, this would be a great beach to set up an umbrella and hang out.

If you like walking on the beach, this beach is hard to beat. There is public parking between the Mana Kai and Days Inn hotels, on the northern end of the beach. There are several sections of this beach. The second section heading south is rimmed by expensive homes and is perhaps the best. It’s somewhat less crowded. Swimming is good. You can rent kayaks and paddle boards at the Mana Kai. Prices are better than at the higher end hotels further south.

I have knee and back issues/pain plus broken shoulder. Cannot do steps. Need short walk from sand to water. Calm, little or no waves. Lots of turtles, tropical fish for snorkeling a big bonus. Just face planted on Kahana Beach and no one helped me get up, in nor out of the water. Previously national level swimmer, been to Maui 20 times. Old now. Not having a good time for the first time in Maui after 60 years of loving it. I have been to Baby Beach. Nice but no turtles, fish. Perhaps calm, enclosed cove with surrounding reef good for snorkeling?

I think you'll need a car. Can't remember how far this would be...not a long drive though. Just a few minutes, I think.
Go earlier in the day. Winds pick up in the afternoon. Have fun!

Recommendations for first time visitors to Mau. Looking for privacy, more nature, less touristy/commercial areas, less developed areas. Travelling with 8 adults and 3 toddlers. This will be once in a lifetime trip and so looking to be suitable impressed. May not be able to afford 1st Class but trying to get as close to it as I can. Hoping for great pools, great bach and best time to visit.

Beaches: You can search beaches online in your area (rent some cars if you intend to see beaches that are beyond walking distance). Some are better for kids, others for snorkeling. You can find more remote beaches and places in Hawaii. This beach that I reviewed is not the most heavily or least attended beach, but there is great scenery and photography opps and kids are making sand castles...I recommend at sundown.
Here is one thing I did off the beaten path and we only saw 5 locals. Waihou Spring Trail: Pretty drive up the mountain, easy trail through an experimental pine forest, then a more challenging trek (not for the toddlers!) to down to a rocky basin with a small waterfall and network of tunnels. Very neat and private. You can do it in two or 3 hours plus drive time and not take all day. There are no tours here. it is more of a local attraction. If you are close, it is a neat little surprise and not what you would expect to see (a pine forest?) in Hawaii.

We're planning something similar, and wonder if you can recommend a place to stay. Ideally I would have liked a house for 8 adults and three toddlers. 2 Condos close together would work as well. One of my daughters just has to be close to a luxury hotel. Kids. Appreciate you taking the time to send along suggestions, if you are able. Thank you in advance. This would be our first time in Hawaii.

Wailea is stunning, high end accommodations and all the high end hotels are found along this shoreline. The newest hotel is the Andaz, cannot comment because I have not stayed. We have stayed at the Fairmont Orchid which is older but has all suite rooms, meaning separate bedroom and living space. The price on the rooms depend on location but given the sun sets at 6 and you spend most of your time outdoors I have never paid up for views. If you are a President club member of Fairmont you probably have upgrades to higher class of room. Fairmont also offers bungalows right near the beach. I think they come in 2 and 3 bedrooms. They have their own private plunge pools and I think you can get other services. I have never stayed in one but they are popular. Out of the Grand Wailea, Four Seasons and Fairmont I would pick the Fairmont. Two condo complexes are found on either side. The Wailea Point condos and the Polo Beach Club. I would put both around 20 plus years in age. The Wailea Point condos are expensive but you have many amenities. The Polo Beach condos are right on Polo Beach but do not have as many amenities. If you go further down, there is Makena Beach and you can also find many vacation rentals there. Kihei is cheaper and more crowded but it is close to shopping and restaurants. There is so much to chose from you need to set a price range and go from there. I prefer this side of the island but the west side offers great options as well. I would also check out rentals in Paia. Hope that helps.

Outside foot and head showers, yes. Restrooms on the beach? No way. Within walking / driving distance? Sure.
(Remember: there are 2 types of divers. Those who pee in their wetsuits and those who lie about it).

As far I as know, you can't rent umbrellas anywhere on the beach. It's mostly private homes with a few condos at the north end, and the condo owners provide chairs and umbrellas to their guests
. The hotel Andaz Maui at the south end has umbrellas, but I think they are for hotel guests only. You could call them and find out :) It's a great beach!!

No this is a public beach, need to bring your own, you can pick up an umbrella for 10.00 at the Nukumoi Surf Shop 2100 Hoone Road, Koloa, HI 96756 and use it all vacation! They also have excellent pricing on snorkel 6 bucks a day or 20.00 a week!!!
Enjoy!
