We did the trail ride( I think 60-90 minutes) and cook out. It was a lot of fun. The trail ride was informative as well as great scenery. The cookout was really nice. Coffee over the fire, a bear in the distance, bison in the distance, great steaks, lots of sides, watermelon, sodas, etc. dessert! It was an awesome time and we were so glad we did this. I would highly recommend!

We learned about this about a year ago but it wasn’t being offered due to COVID. Then one day I saw it was available so after numerous attempts, was able to get through on the phone and made a reservation (as a site note, it’s lousy that you still have to call to make a reservation, allow to purchase online!).

Anyway, we elected for the stagecoach ride and we were supposed to arrive at 4:45. Despite leaving early, we had heavy traffic and didn’t arrive until around 4:55. We were in panic mode as we thought we missed it, but thankfully they were still going over instructions/background so we were fine (if we arrived 10 minutes later, it would have been a different story) It was about a 15 minute ride to the dinner site and our tour guide was very friendly and told some very interesting stories/history, and the driver was quiet for the most part, but he would occasionally make a funny remark.

Once we arrived, there was two lines to get dinner and once everything got one serving, they would ring a bell and you could get a second serving. The only compliant I had was that they ran out of certain items after the first serving, such as rolls and dessert. The steak was delicious and I would definitely recommend the campfire coffee. You would just take your cup over and a server would pour the coffee for you. They had a person playing country songs and he did a decent job. There was plenty of seating available, and we had beautiful views.

Towards the end, they would allow you to pet the horses and my daughter enjoyed that. We all sang happy trials and then departed. They do have two outhouses, but they really smelled bad (it was even worse then what you would expect) so I would only use those if you have no choice.

Overall, a wonderful experience and if we go back to Yellowstone, it’s a no-brainer that we will do this again!

We did this on our first day in the area and it was the perfect kickoff to our Yellowstone trip. On the wagon ride to and from the cookout location, the Roosevelt Corral wranglers entertained us with history about the area and their personal stories working there. At the cookout, we loved eating the steaks and sides on the metal trays, drinking the coffee cooked on the campfire, and listening to the singing cowboy. It was just the right amount of time too -- not rushed, but not too long. A great time!

Our group of 10 included our adult children and grandkids, everyone loved this experience. The Roosevelt Corral is a fantastic area. Booking was easy via the Yellowstone reservations line. Our family did the wagon rides out the the Cowboy Cookout, the horse rides had already closed for the season. Our wranglers Allison and Steven were knowledgeable and funny, great entertainment. We saw a bison herd on our way out in the wagons. The steaks grilled out in the valley and sides were fabulous. The favorite was the cornbread! After dinner there is time to walk around for photo opts with the horses and chat with the wranglers. Live music is provided while dining. The cowboy coffee is a must try. The experience closed with song around a camp fire.

We loved the Dinner Cookout! We had signed up for the 2-hour horseback ride, but recent storms had washed out the riding trails. The organization contacted us and offered a spot on the covered wagons instead, and I'm so glad we decided to do it anyway. The guides are charming and knowledgeable, the ride is beautiful (we rode right by a small herd of bison!), and the meal was one of the best we had in the park. Would love to come back and do a horseback ride with better weather. Seemed like a great family-friendly activity, although we thoroughly enjoyed it as a couple without kids as well.

If you are staying in or near Yellowstone National Park this cowboy cookout is a MUST DO! My family and I can't stop talking about how great this experience was!! We took the stage coaches out to the cookout and had beautiful views of the park and wildlife on the way. The amazing team of wranglers told funny and interesting stories about the animals and history of the park along our journey. All of the members of the cowboy cookout were so high energy and love what they do, they made us feel so welcome, safe, and entertained the whole time. (Steven and Sadie were awesome!!) When we got to cookout there was great food, live music, and it rained a bit but not to worry - there was covering! The views were spectacular and we got to take pictures with the horses, enjoy cowboy coffee, and listen to funny stories around the fire! We didn't want it to end!

We took the two-hour trail ride to the cookout. It was me, my husband, and our 10 year old daughter. Both my daughter and I have English riding experience, and we've done trail rides before. A couple things you should know before you go: I would not say this is a beginner ride. You will be going up some steep inclines and switchbacks, as well as back down some steep inclines, across narrow bridges, along steep cliffs, etc. If I had never been on a horse before, this would have freaked me out, so FYI on that. This isn't just sit on a horse for two hours and look around. You need to focus on what you're doing. This is mainly why they strongly discourage phones on the ride. There are very few times when it's a smart idea to take out a phone and take pictures. And if you drop it, there's no guarantee anyone will help you get it.

Also, if you do ride, leave your helmet at home. I brought my daughter's helmet that she wears for her riding lessons, but they said she had to wear one of theirs for insurance and liability. Her helmet is relatively new and probably better than the glorified bike helmets they have, but I understood why the rule is in place. If you are an adult, a helmet is optional.

Luckily, our horses were all great. That's not necessarily the case on all trail rides as horses are, by nature, unpredictable. I was often trying to give my husband's horse (Rojo) in front of me some space as my horse (Jeep) liked to use Rojo's butt as a face scratching post!

The wranglers, Anna, Becca, and Sydney were all great and did very well monitoring the group throughout the ride. They make sure you're in the saddle correctly and the stirrups are in place. If they're not, you need to say something because it's difficult for them to adjust your stirrups on the trail. As I said earlier, the ride starts out going up some steep hills, and then into a meadow, through some forest, along some cliffs, and then past Lost Lake, which is really beautiful. You also go past the petrified tree, cross the Grand Loop road and through more meadow before descending down into a ravine/valley for the cookout. We didn't see many animals, but because Yellowstone isn't a zoo or Disneyworld, animals do not just pop out on cue. Maybe you see them, maybe you don't. However, a lone bison used the trail to wander down toward the cookout, and the wranglers had to block him from coming too close. That was cool to see.

There is plenty of food at the cookout. I ordered my steak medium rare and it was probably cooked medium. Yes, this is expensive, but I still wouldn't go to something like this expecting the best steak of my life, lol. I don't think the people grilling are actually trained chefs. You're paying for the whole experience.

The ride back is a quick thirty minutes directly to the corral. They get you back there by about 8:00, so there was still plenty of daylight for our drive back to Mammoth.

We enjoyed this experience with our three teenagers. Knowing that there are limited dining options inside the park, this was a great option for one meal. It is dusty. The ride is bumpy with a mixture of bad jokes and useful Yellowstone history and natural facts. The food was very good (not amazing, but very good). But it was really a unique experience and we did enjoy it - my kids loved meeting the horses, I loved the solitude of the location, we all found something to eat that filled us up, and it was unique and special for this trip!

We did the two hour horseback ride and cookout. I had reservations about the length of the ride as we haven’t ridden in many years. But, it was wonderful! My kids (17,14,and 8) have never ridden and they fell in love. Anna, Kala, and Dakota made sure we all felt comfortable and enjoyed ourselves. They checked our saddled many times throughout the ride and we got to experience the backcountry in ways we wouldn’t have otherwise. We saw a coyote which was cool. The cookout food was really good and the boys liked the all you could eat steak! We even had a black bear visit and the wranglers did an excellent job of keeping him out of the camp. My kids said this was the highlight of their trip! Highly recommend!
