Natural Hot Tub
thg 8 năm 2019
The river is very shallow, so you can easily sit in it. There are mixed currents of hot and cold water, making it perfect for a midday break. This is not on park maps, but it is a great place to stop. It might be a little crowded though.

THEE HOT TUB of ALL HOT TUBS in THE WORLD..."BOILING RIVER"... Yellowstone Park
thg 3 năm 2020
Entering the North Entrance of Yellowstone National Park, Montana at Gardiner, Montana close to Chico Hot Springs Day SPA & Resort and the Sage Resort you travel just south on Hwy 89 to just past the 45th Parallel (halfway between the North Pole and the Equator!!!) The 140 degree springs spill into the cool Gardiner River and make about a perfect 105 degree "hot tub atmosphere". You literally soak in the "Boiling River"... seriously.. put it on your BUCKET LIST... an outdoor adventure you will not be disappointed.

En af de bedste oplevelser 🙏 vi var der i september måned og kom tidligt om morgenen. dér var ikke mange mennesker. Vi fandt det perfekte sted at ligge i vandet. Man skal virkelig prøve det! Kæmpe oplevelse.

Possibly the Coolest Place in all of Yellowstone National Park
thg 8 năm 2019
This has to be on your to do list when you visit Yellowstone. It is the quintessential Yellowstone experience . The ice cold Gardner River meets the Mammoth Hot Springs resulting in a wondrous soak. This place is very busy on a warm afternoon in the Summer so come early or later and you can have the place almost to yourself. We went there at 8 AM. Wear water shoes as the river bed is rocky and uneven. Find your sweet spot where the cold and hot waters mix and enjoy. The hike is is easy and flat. This is not to be missed. This is not well marked on the road but the visitors center at Mammoth will give you accurate directions.

Not advertised, but a neat place to stop
thg 8 năm 2019
This isn't something you will find on park maps, but definitely worth stopping. There are two parking lots near it and some parking on the west side of the road. The entrance is on the east side of the road and it is an easy walk. Once you get there, you will be walking on rocks in the river. So, I would definitely recommend sandals as it was hard on my feet. I didn't take a towel and found that I was mostly dry after walking back to my car. It was really neat sitting in the river and having both cool and hot water on you.

Come prepared for this natural wonder!
thg 9 năm 2019
Do as my title suggests, not as I did: come prepared! It's a pretty decent walk from the parking spots off the road to the actual point of entry to the water. Once there, you're going to want some strapped sandals or water shoes. I went with flip flops and no real desire to get completely soaked and well, that didn't work. The flip flops would have been gone forever had a kind soul not caught them down stream.

Beyond that, what a neat experience. A person in our group purchased the book Death in Yellowstone. Many of the deaths involve springs/hot pots. It's no wonder how once you see the heat produced in this spring. It creates a very interesting and ever-changing mix of cold and hot water around your body.

There are pools right when you get to the point of entry. I found the rocks there to be very, very slippery and the springs put out little hot water so the pool was pretty cold. Down a bit is a much bigger spring. I think away from the shore the rocks get less slick and you just have to find the right balance of hot and cold water. Many people appeared to have been there a while and were all-in. I only got soaked when the water got too hot, I panicked, and opted to fall into the cold stuff rather than the hotter stuff. There went the sandals! So some useful shoes are highly suggested but some people walked the rocks barefoot (ouch). The spot closes at dark and alcohol is not allowed. Oddly enough, the place is seasonal but usually closed when waters are high in the spring/early summer.

A highlight in Yellowstone
thg 8 năm 2019 • Gia đình
Came here in the evening after hiking Bunsen Peak which is climbing a mountain so we enjoyed this gem. Parking was somewhat difficult but we got lucky and didn’t have to wait. Easy trail to get to it. I read many reviews beforehand so had my whole family in water shoes which I feel like are an almost must but people manage without. Very neat phenomenon of how it works! We could have soaked here for hours but we only had an hour or so before off to the terraces of Mammoth!

Way Too Many Tourists!
thg 8 năm 2019
I remember frequenting these hot springs nearly 40 years ago.
Back then, it was not publicized anywhere and if you didn’t know their exact location, you would have missed them. You could sit in these hot springs all day and not see a single person. It was terrific. What a gem it was!

Nowadays, apparently the “secret” is out. I guess the National Park Service decided to start publicizing their location and now (of course) there are tons of tourists there every day and the place is now strewn with litter, beer cans, and broken glass for you to step on while wading in the pools. What a waste of a great place.😞

And to make matters worse, now the National Park Service has to go in there and clean up this man-made mess and so they periodically shut the place down. So, now you never know if it will be “open” or not until you actually arrive there.
I guess you could check with the National Park Service since apparently they are now “in charge” of this once beautiful location.

There is also another hot spring you can swim in inside the park along the Firehole River Drive, but apparently the National Park Service has taken over that hot springs as well and the exact same thing has happened there.

Sometimes keeping something a secret is a good thing.

Awesome Natural Phenomena
thg 8 năm 2019 • Cặp đôi
This is the confluence of the river which is tremendously cold and hot springs. The hike is short and easy. Walking in the water requires water shoes for comfort and good footing. You can find some perfect spots with the right mix of hot and cold but it changes based on natural water flow and movement of other people. The river flows quickly and the hot springs are very hot so be very careful. If your children say they’re hot or cold - believe them.
