Bison and the Trail
thg 6 năm 2021
After visiting the shoppes at Fishing Bridge in the Yellowstone, we took a hike on the Storm Point Trail. This located at the north end of Yellowstone Lake. It was about a two-mile hike that took us by a small pond that a bison was protecting. We walked through a wooded area and came out on the lake shoreline. As we walked through the woods, we could see large trees scarred by elk rubbing their antlers on the tree trunks. When we exited the woods, the bison had walked across the path and was holding the high ground. Side note: There was an outhouse in the parking area for the trail. Hike time, a couple of hours.

quietly spectacular
thg 10 năm 2020 • Cặp đôi
This is my wife’s favourite trail. It’s short and easy but just enough off the beaten path to allow one to experience quiet, uncrowded aspects of Yellowstone Park and Lake. Of course, I expect it’s more popular during peak season. But in early October 2020 which broke records for being the busiest October in park history, we saw only one other party. The atmosphere of the huge lake with fancifully eroded rock slabs adjoining a sandy/gravelly beach is delightful.
The trail makes a loop through the woods which I’ve hiked before but the trail junction is overgrown so I don’t expect it’s used much, word is there’s a bridge out.
We did a late afternoon out and back, taking time to savour rare atmosphere.
This is a place I expect to return to again snd again.

Fun and easy trail
thg 8 năm 2020
Fun and easy trail with scenic overlooks. Breathtaking views of the lake, jetties, possibility to observe marmots, and walk through “enchanted” forest make it definitely worthwhile. Don’t forget to apply bugs repellent, and keep your bear spray handy.

Joli trail

Beautiful and Easy

You don't have to do the whole trail to get great lake views. It's an easy trail that nearly anyone can do. It's well worth the time.

My favorite hike in Yellowstone
thg 7 năm 2019 • Cặp đôi
I first just wanted to clarify something for those reading reviews and trying to find this hike. A previous poster stated it is located in the Canyon region of the park--I believe this person has a different trail in mind. The Storm Point Hike is not in the canyon area; it is out past the Fishing Bridge visitor center toward the East entrance of the park.

Also, it is hard to find during the construction. We stopped in the FB visitor center to get directions. It is currently right IN the middle of one-way construction. Look off to your right for some gray vault toilets being constructed. Immediately following that is a small gravel parking lot by a meadow. This is the trailhead; there is NO Storm Point sign!

I wish this hike was rated higher on TA because it is wonderful! The ranger let us know a foot bridge was out, so instead of doing a loop, we hiked the other portion of the trail out to Storm Point and made it an out and back. You hike through meadow, beautiful forest, and right along Yellowstone Lake. It's peaceful and we didn't see many others out here. I would carry bear spray, personally, if hiking this trail. Also there are often bison near the trail. Give them 25+ yards and hike out in the grass if you have to.

You can hike out to a secluded little beach and there are gorgeous views all along this trail. If looking for a place for a meal before or after, Lake Hotel isn't that far. Be aware that there are no bathrooms at this trailhead currently until the new vault toilets are finished. There are restrooms at Fishing Bridge VC about 5 miles down the road.

Very nice trail

This trail is fairly easy with great views of the lake. We did a ranger led hike with Hayden who has been a ranger for 47 years. He was very knowledgeable and great with the kids. I liked it so much I did it again with my husband when we passed through a few days later. The only hike I did twice.

My favorite trail in the canyon. What views throughout
thg 6 năm 2019 • Cặp đôi
Amazing views of the canyon and the river throughout the length of the trail. This is the best trail we have done in Yellowstone. When we were there much of both rim trails were closed but this trail defiantly took their place. The trailhead is at Artist Point (parking and bathrooms available). It is ~2.6 miles round trip -- up and down the entire way with a total elevation gain ~500ft. So you need to be in decent shape for this trail but the payoff is fabulous. Throughout the trail there are many spots along the way that you get great views of the canyon and the river. You are walking along the canyon rim for most of the trail hence the great views The actually trail end at Sublime Point we didn't find as good as some of the vistas long the way but in general the entire trail is worth the effort.

There is a turn of about 0.6 miles into the trail for the Lily Pad Lake and Ribbon Lake loop trail. You can get a Canyon Day Hikes Trail brochure from the park rangers at the VC which include a description of this and other trails.

I'm sure it's great

We wanted to check out Storm Point, but could not locate a sign, as there was construction in the area, and apparently (a ranger told me), the sign is hard to see. So I am going to take the opportunity to gripe about the lack of good, clear signage in Yellowstone (and Teton, for those interested). I spoke to other visitors having the same exact issue. The signage is so poor, that we missed several of the things on our want-to-do list. So word to the wise, if there are certain things you'd like to do in the area, get maps, do your homework, and ask the rangers where to go. It is NOT self-explanatory beyond the tour bus highlights.

Great trail
thg 8 năm 2018 • Cặp đôi
we really enjoyed this one. it has forest and lake portions. except for a makeshift bridge and a steep portion at one end, anyone who can walk can do it. take your pepper spray. there was a bison on trail we had to detour around. And it seems like there could be bears but we didn't see any. Well worth it for young to old.
