This sanctuary partly incorporated into the Barberini palace, which perhaps helped to safeguard and preserve this historical beauty, deserves to be seen and perhaps advertised more! The temple that originally started right where the palace is and went down was an engineering marvel! It reminded me a lot of the victorious temple of Hercules in Tivoli. Visiting it will surely make you feel admiration for the builders of the past as it always happens to me! Enjoy visiting you people of TripAdvisor.

The Sanctuary of Fortuna Primigenia in Palestrina is the main historical attraction of the ancient village.
The architectural complex was built in Roman times, as thanks to the goddess Fortuna, a pagan deity, whose cult was abandoned with the adoption of Christianity by Emperor Theodosius.
The Roman theater is splendid, consisting of an enormous auditorium that takes advantage of the natural slope of the land.
The splendid Archaeological Museum is located near the sanctuary.
Absolutely not to be missed.

This enormous sanctuary is truly unique in its kind, partly used as a museum, the remains of which are still impressive, making it clear what the original construction must have looked like, even if the Barberini later built their palace on top of it and everything merged together in a perspective of great scenographic impact. The museum is easily visited, the terraces below are worth a walk to understand the structure of the building, for the hole further down you need a separate ticket; the Barberini palace is still inhabited by the family but they sporadically give guided tours so you need to inquire at the museum. All of this deserves greater tourist notoriety because it is decidedly special.

L'entrata al santuario è inclusa al biglietto del Museo Archeologico, la domenica in cui sono andato era aperto soltanto dalle 12:00 alle 13:00, però non ho capito se si tratta di un orario provvisorio o se è la normalità. Per comprendere meglio la sua grandiosità consiglio di vedere, prima della visita, il plastico che si trova all'entrata del Museo che mostra come appariva il Santuario in origine. Databile intorno al II sec. a.C. quando con progetto ingegnoso vennero unificati due differenti santuari più antichi, il complesso si articola in una serie di grandi terrazze che scendono verso il centro abitato di Palestrina, e rappresenta un'importante testimonianza dell'architettura ellenistica italica. Oggi è molto rimaneggiato ma comunque affascinante

Questo santuario di epoca romano ellenistica sorge sulla collina di Palestrina. Sopra al santuario la famiglia Barberini ha costruito un palazzo che oggi è sede del museo archeologico nazionale. Del tempio antico rimangono un paio di colonne e un lungo criptoportico col soffitto a botte dove sono sistemate antiche statue. Un'area archeologica c'è anche di fronte al santuario con rovine in mezzo a un prato tenute non troppo bene.

Ho visitato per la seconda volta il Museo Archeologico di Palestrina, situato nel Palazzo Barberini, a sua volta costruito sulle sostruzioni del Tempio romano della Fortuna Primigenia. L'allestimento è abbastanza funzionale e la cartellonistica esauriente. Suggerisco però al Ministero dei Beni Culturali di fornire a questo sito un POS per i pagamenti (capisco che per i pagamenti al Santuario della Fortuna Primigenia non si usavano carte di credito ma adesso siamo nel 2022).

Il santuario della Fortuna primigenia è un sito archeologico che si sviluppa nella parte sottostante lo scenografico palazzo Barberini, che ne ricalca la pianta. Si tratta dei resti di un antico complesso sacro dedicato alla dea Fortuna, costruito nel II secolo a.C. ed articolato su diversi piani terrazzati, collegati tra loro da rampe e scalinate. Si può accedere all’area con il biglietto d’ingresso al museo archeologico nazionale che costa 5,00 €. Sebbene diverse parti non siano in buono stato di conservazione, merita comunque una visita. Ci si può fare un’idea di come apparisse originariamente il sito, osservando il plastico che si trova nel museo. Luogo poco valorizzato ma visita nel complesso interessante.

la visita al santuario e' abbianta con il biglietto del mueso che costa solo 5 euro, il personale e' molto gentile, prima di andare leggete pero' la storia del santuario poiche' non ci sono guide
