Perfect for Birdwatchers

I took this tour on a whim, with Deybar (apologies for the spelling, I almost wrote David!)

I have visited Curi Cancha before on more wildlife seeing tour, preferring it to the other parks as it's less touristy and seeing as I was actually organised and up early, the opportunity to see birds arose

I'll be honest my Grandad was the birdwatcher of the family but I've always wanted to take a tour, as I love how vibrant they are in Costa Rica

The information and knowledge around the birds was faultless and we saw so many, including the infamous bellbird - on a previous trip to Monteverde we only heard it - this time we saw adults and juveniles.

It's out of season here for the Quetzal (I have seen it many times so not an issue for me) but we saw Toucans, Hummingbirds, MotMots and many many more birds

A friendly relaxed and highly recommended trip for bird lovers

Knowledgeable and friendly guide in Monteverde

Roy is an expert and loves what he does. He is knowledgeable and so friendly and personable. I would recommend Roy to anybody wanting to hire a birding guide in Monteverde.

Excellent Trip

I went on this trip with Deyber and we saw a lot of birds. The reserve is excellent and Deyber is amazing at spotting the birds. We saw lot of tanagers, toucans, hummingbirds, flycatchers and more. He explains everything very nicely and overall i had a great experience. I would highly recommend this trip.

Nice tour of Monteverde Wildilfe Preserve!

Roy was a nice and informative guide; small group (7) of us. Saw a Quetzal, lots of birds, a centipede, a tarantula, beautiful rainforest, and waterfall view. Roy had a spotting scope to allow us to see birds and wildlife up close. We went to a Hummingbird Cafe to see hummingbirds up close. After the tour, we were able to re-enter the park and hike a longer trail to see a Quetzal pair, more rainforest, hanging bridge, and the Continental Divide. Clean restrooms a plus. Remember the entrance fee to the Park is separate, not included in the tour price.

Excellent guide

Deyber was an excellent guide. We did the bird watching with him at Curi-cancha. We saw so many birds, including the toucans, bell bird, mot mots and some others. He explained to us about each bird and was very patient in explaining everything. Highly recommend Deyber for a wonderful bird watching experience.

Must do Night tour, but not private

You definitely should do a night tour in Monteverde. Roy was an excellent guide and he was able to spot so many critters in the trees and forest. We saw snakes, a sloth, sleeping birds (including a toucan), beetles, a tarantula, and frogs. The groups are limited to around 8 people, but there are several other groups with other guides at the same time wandering around. I wouldn't call this "private" by any means. All the guides help each other out to find more animals at night which is a bonus, but good chance you will be sharing some animals with other groups. Roy was great and we were able to snag some really great photos through his scope. He actually can take them on his own phone and send them to you through whatsapp right after the tour. Keep in mind that this is nature and you may not see anything!

Roy was a great guide and we saw plenty of birds and animals. He was patient to explain about each animal we spotted. We saw a viper, armadillo, several birds, frogs and more. Highly recommend.

Terrific tour in a beautiful location

We were so happy to have booked this fun and informative tour as we never would have been able to identify everything we saw if we had opted for a self-guided tour of the Cloud Forest! It was easy to locate them when we arrived, and then we had plenty of time to pay for our entrance fees before the tour left. To keep the size of the group down, the tour group was split into two with Roy guiding one group and his brother the other (we were with his brother). Both of them were extremely adept at finding birds, insects and plants, and it was super helpful that they had spotting scopes with them so we could see the birds close up in detail. We were so lucky to see many beautiful birds including several resplendent quetzals, as well as a tarantula and an agouti. The tour ended at a hummingbird garden.

One tip - if you are driving and plan to park in the Monteverde Cloud Forest parking lot and take the shuttle to the entrance, leave plenty of time because the shuttle only leaves approx every 15 minutes from the parking lot and you don't want to be late for the tour.

Monteverde cloud forest review

Our guide was so very personable and knowledgeable of the cloud forest, making our trip fun and informative. Saw many species of birds, including many hummingbirds, plants, trees, an agouti and a tarantula! Made our trip to this paradise so much better. Recommend these tour guides to anyone. Pura vida!

We had a great time on this tour, we had Roy’s brother who was very friendly and informative. He asked us what we’d like to see and made sure that we saw all of them! He went above and beyond to make sure we had a good time! Would recommend to anyone!
