Hessenpark, a sight for young and old. The past comes to life here, and memories of (great) grandma and (great) grandpa are awakened :)
We had the ideal weather, cloudy but warm and dry.
If it's sunny, you should have a hat/umbrella/sun protection ready, because long stretches have to be covered without shade.
The site is very extensive, covering just over 6 hectares, and good footwear is recommended. There are also numerous steps in the buildings (some of them quite steep).
Many buildings house crafts, which are wonderfully explained and demonstrated by the park staff. In some of them you can even get involved yourself.
The staff are great! Friendly, humorous, courteous - we would give 10 stars for that alone.
The entrance prices are cheap for what you get. The park was clean throughout (including the sanitary facilities, of which there are numerous).
The sanitary facilities are wheelchair accessible throughout.
There are also enough parking spaces. At the entrance you can rent handcarts and there are free lockers with plenty of space (we were able to fit two backpacks in).
The entire park is generally smoke-free. However, there are some smoking areas. There is also a playground and two restaurants with plenty of seating provide food and drink. In the market square area there are a few shops where you can shop. There is the brush maker, where you can get everything from nail brushes to feather dusters and brooms, the goldsmith (where you can buy wedding rings for the registry office - yes, you can really get married in Hessenpark), a delicatessen with Hessian goods, the market shop with groceries, the bakery with delicious baked goods (don't miss them!), the herb shop, the "Schawellche" toy shop, the watchmaker's workshop, the traditional costume shop and, last but not least, the museum shop with souvenirs and books.
We had a wonderful day (again) and would like to thank the entire Hessenpark team for their tireless and loving efforts. We will definitely be back.
We can only advise everyone else: go there, it's worth it :)
Finally, a couple of small suggestions:
A "Hessenpark sat nav" would be great (examples: Opel Zoo, Herkules Kassel), so that you know where you are and how best to get to where you are.
A coin-operated machine would be nice (but not a must-have).

Great museum! Lots of interesting facts to learn! Good for taking nice photos and going for a walk.
The lentil soup with sausages in the Martinsklause pub tasted fantastic, well seasoned and the landlord was very nice.

We visited this park on Boxing Day after our River Cruise itinerary was disrupted. We arrived early and there was zero crowd so a great day to visit. What a fantastic concept to bring historical buildings, machinery, equipment, furniture etc from around Germany to one place to preserve a glimpse of German history over the years. It's easy to see the development of building styles etc. It literally is a working farm as well with animals & farming practices in place. There were definitely more people arriving throughout our time there, but still not busy and was just an excellent days outing.

A collection of historic buildings from villages in the Hessian region, rebuilt and furnished inside and out with great attention to detail.
You really feel like you've been transported back to earlier times and into the world of the people. A journey through time, informative and entertaining. But one criticism is allowed. Only some of the information and signboards have been gendered. While new signs correctly read "Beucher:innen", older signs still use the generic masculine form, e.g. "Ackerbürger" instead of "Ackerbürger:innen". Of course, this shouldn't happen in a facility defined as a cultural asset. After all, our "elite" has opted for this linguistic bastardization and is now forcing it on us wherever possible. 73% - and the trend is rising - of people in Germany reject genderization. The same goes for most linguistic experts. That means you're offending the vast majority of your visitors and going against the findings of linguists. Why, one wonders, who would like that?

No notice on the homepage that card payments are not possible. At the entrance, there is a notice saying that you can drive to the next village to withdraw money?
Super annoying with bicycles.
No understanding in 2023.

This museum is amazing. Let’s get one thing clear from the start, Mojomo who has written below and is from America wants a burger van on every corner of the park and free wheelchairs to get around! This amazing park is not Disneyland! The adventures here to be had cannot be completed in one day, only two days later have I just read about the Nikon exhibition and I totally missed this.
I did however visit some amazing shops and houses, windmills and churches restored to their former glory and looking beautiful. I spoke to some great people doing weaving and bread making (warning to Americans; to make bread ovens need to be used so the kitchens might be hot!)
The refreshment houses were in keeping with the rest of the exhibits as too the retail shops.
I will add the clock exhibition currently on show was too astounding and a must see.
This park has developed over many many years and the attention to detail shows through. Thank you for such a splendid time and I will certainly return from England to visit once again.

This place is a fantastic concept as far as preserving and bringing together old buildings of the region.
That said, we arrived on an exceptionally warm sunny day in late August & I was desperately hot and thirsty.
Upon arrival you enter a large square without an inch of shade.
We went to buy water from a shop at the far back corner of the square. It was pricey.
We then stepped into a bakery & it was super stuffy, with no airflow. Shut up tight in the heat.
So maybe food trucks and concession stands could be arranged to supply much needed respite during warmer months.
My grandchildren were happy to run wide in the large open spaces despite the heat.
I must emphasize this is a very, very large spread out park. Lots of waking. Thankfully benches are placed throughout, although many were of rusted metal.
In defense of the park, the area was going through a very dry spell.
But I think the park could benefit greatly by planting much needed trees for shade throughout.
Also, we viewed a lady doing some dyeing of cloth, but none of the items on display were for sale.
For tourism, it would be helpful if the items were available for purchase.
Great place for kids to enjoy the outdoors.
Not sure how long the place has been open, but maybe some of the above improvements can be made.

Good afternoon, please answer what are the benefits and what is done for your disabled in your ethnopark?
Sincerely, Ivanova Hope. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Đã viết vào 19 tháng 4, 2017
Dear Mrs. Hope,
I was a visitor and for that I am not sure wether I can assist you.
Maybe the answer to your question is the information on the homepage of the museum:
“...Information for visitors with disabilities
Parking spaces for visitors with disabilities are located immediately next to the museum’s entrance. Both the entrance area and the box office are fully accessible. The box office offers visitors a barrier-free plan of the museum. Accessible toilets are available throughout the Open Air Museum and marked on the site maps. Although some roads and paths are cobbled, many sections of the routes have special surfacing that can be easily used by wheelchairs and mobility scooters.
Unfortunately, numerous reconstructed buildings do not offer barrier-free access due to their historic structural conditions (steep steps, narrow doors and small rooms). We apologize for the inconvenience. Please be assured that we do our best trying to consider the needs of all our visitors when planning new projects and measures. Our new, modern exhibition building, the Stable Barn from Asterode (Northern Hesse Ensemble), offers over 300 square meters of accessible exhibition space. The Synagogue from Groß-Umstadt (Southern Hesse Ensemble) will soon have an accessible entry ramp.
Need assistance? We are happy to help prepare your visit. Please give our team a call under 06081 588-0.
...“
Please check the visitor information found on the homepage.
Best greetings.
