I have lived on Whangaparaoa for over 25 years and I have seen this club wax and wane between different owners. I never really saw it take off until recently.
The upstairs bar and restaurant were closed for years apart from events and it always seemed such a waste to me.
I recently decided to try playing there again as somewhere different to try and I was blown away by the changes. I am not sure what they have done but it is working!
The café down stairs is friendly helpful and offers a good range of food and drinks both alcoholic and non alcoholic, the pro shop staff CANNOT DO ENOUGH TO HELP!
They bend over backwards to ensure you have a good time and a great game of golf.
NOW finally the upstairs bar and restaurant is open and you cannot fault the staff. They are friendly, attentive and make your after game drinks enjoyable.
If you are looking for something to do and just want a day trip out then I highly recommend you visit and have a look around whether you are a golfer or not.

We enjoyed 7 days of magnificent weather Auckland had put on. Decided to visit Gulf Harbour Country Club and form the write ups of the course. I did not realise how beautiful the location of the course was. As with a picture speaks a thousand words. The golf course was in very good condition, the fairways were perfect as were able to get ball to spin on greens. The greens were perfect, soft but fast and rolled true. Finally the days were made awesome, by the way the fantastic staff, were very helpful and provided awesome customer experience. This has made me wanting to play golf there again. Highly recommend it for all golfers looking for a great course to play.

Wow have been around the area a while and just played the back 9 last week.
Pro Shop staff super friendly and helpful the place buzzing with life.
Played a Men’s League Ambrose and they have just opened the bar upstairs was a full experience and now signing up to be a member. Great facility with lots of potential going forward. World class

This was my first game here and we walked the course rather than take a buggy. The layout is very undulating with some longish walks between greens and next tees. Excellent Pro Shop and a nice welcome. Some spectacular holes and views on the back 9 - it’s a ‘resort’ course and well worth playing and probably more enjoyable with a buggy. Great practice facility.

One of the best golfing experiences you could have. I played the back tees so close to 7000 yards long. The course is a considerable test from these tees. The distance wasn't so much a factor - it is the fast greens and getting yourself in the right place when you miss. The greens were very firm and it was so easy to three putt.
The bunkers were not in great condition - often unraked and in places, very little sand underneath. I understand that the greens are being repaired though.
The 12th, 15th and the signature 16th holes are amazing experiences where you feel like you are taking the ocean on. I play off a 11 handicap and shot 99. Yep, it was that tough. It was my first time playing the course and one I'd like to return too.
Two tips:
1. Take a cart. It is a long way round. After five and a quarter hours walking, I was a spent force. There are some long walks to the next tee. And I'm no cart person either.
2. Get there early because the practice facilities are high class and you will need to see or feel the speed of the greens. Your A game will be needed here so do what you can to give yourself a chance.
Why only 4 stars? The state of the bunkers and the ever encroaching real estate. There are houses everywhere. Other than that, a five star experience!

We played Gulf Harbour golf club, what a fantastic experience. Fantastic course, amazing greens and views that are captivating.
So good we played 2 days in a row and we'll definitely be back.
I play off of 9 and I've played many of the world's top courses, this place would be in my top 10...

How many times am I going to golf in New Zealand with my son? This may have been my one chance, so I went for the best place I could find. Add rental clubs to the greens fees for a Friday morning round, and it came in just under $400 us (yikes, but okay). I think kiwis get a much better rate, especially if they are affiliated with club. We LOVED it! We took the ferry from the Auckland viaduct, and the course arranged for our ride to the course. What a cool way to get to the course! The views were insane, and we never had to wait to hit our shots, even though we were a twosome. The rough is crazy. If you hit one wide, don't even bother. Even if you see exactly where it went in, chances are less than 50/50 that you'll find it. Don't worry, though, it's not so hard that you won't have fun. It's great.

I am lucky enough to play at Gulf Harbour on a regular basis and I have got to say it is one of the best courses in the country. The views are second to none (well, maybe Kauri Cliffs and Cape Kidnappers) and the quality of the greens is right up there with the very best.
Both nines offer a completely different experience but both are challenging. The back nine wins on views but the front has some great holes. The 4th,7th and 9th were highlights for me.
They are currently renovating the cafe but the food has always been decent and it's a great place to grab a beer after your round. The practice facilities are amazing so get there early for a proper warm up.

A well maintained Robert Trent Jones Jr. designed course approximately an hour away from Auckland.
World class course, with a few holes recognized as top in the world on some lists. It's on the bay so you have great view of the bay on some holes.
Food is great and it's easy to get to - especially if you have waze or other mapping apps.
