Lichtenstein Castle has a beautiful location. The parking is large enough (fee Euro2). The tour is regular (in the morning it has fewer people). Our tour was very good, however the castle must not have been seen from the inside, it is not worth it, The catering options are ok but not recommended

The landscape setting is amazing! The castle looks like a fairy tale! However, the cost of the visit to the outer space (4€) is exaggerated, and the visit to the interior of the castle (13€) is completely unadjusted taking into account what is offered to the visitor. The explanation is made in German (with one or another indication in English/Spanish), in a very short time, not giving an opportunity to appreciate the few rooms that are visible. We consider that the amount paid for the visit to the castle is not in proportion to the area visited, the time and quality of the guided visit. According to the Guide, there is no time for more, as other groups (?).
It should be noted that a brochure in Portuguese was provided, which presented gross errors in the translation of the text.

We chose only the external visit. Consistent price. Beautiful view of the castle overlooking the beautiful valley. The ticket includes a brochure of the history of the castle in the various languages. Comfortable parking at 2 euros and restaurant bar near

Beautiful castle with magnificent views. Very well maintained condition, playground and restaurant nearby.
But unfortunately incredibly child-unfriendly and outrageous leadership - I am still speechless, this has never happened to me. I very much hope that we just had bad luck with the guide.
We were with 3 small children 4J and 2J - the tour was only rattled down, questions were not wanted and were not answered or snapped.
No child cried or made a play, only two questions came up that were not whispered. Nevertheless, after a short time we were asked to leave the room.
When we had another question at the end of the tour (20min), only “they could have heard that if it hadn’t been such a shout”. There was no shouting.
We asked other guests if they had also found the children disturbing - here it was denied.
A sign that the tour is not suitable for children and questions are not welcome would be appropriate here. Or simply an audio guide.
Save yourself the €10.

Beautiful castle that perches on the edge a mountain cut. The tour is done only in German, so we were given a short Guide to follow the tour in Spanish with the purchase of tickets, but clearly the explanations are less than the Guide. The visit is around half an hour.
Inside it is beautiful and has curious objects, such as the mask collection or the large cup. However, I loved it on the outside, you get sick of taking pictures because it is so beautiful. The owner of it lives in a house opposite the castle.
To park, you leave the car in a parking lot next to the restaurant and bathrooms and a few meters (a bit uphill, but nothing complicated) you access. The area is forested and I really liked it too.

A fairly small castle with beautiful views over the valley.
For access you can choose from a guided tour or just visit the courtyard without a tour. In addition, parking must also be paid for.
The castle is beautiful but not very special. The view is very beautiful.
Nice to have seen.

Even though there wasn't a tour available in English we were allowed to tag along with a tour in German and were given a flier that had descriptions of the rooms in English so we could follow along. It was still worth the time it took to tour it.

An incredible castle brought to life by the excellent guide. We were lucky to have a tour with just the 4 of us and we were guided by a very knowledgeable guide who spoke impeccable English. The castle although relatively small has loads of history associated with it and it has many artefacts that enable you to see what life could have been like. Excellent value, would highly recommend

A fairytale castle that would have deserved a better rating if it hadn't been for the terrible tour by a young man. He addressed the visitors informally (perhaps not unusual these days, but disrespectful) and we found him to be pedantic ("If you listened better, you wouldn't need to ask that question") and arrogant ("If there are no questions, then I've explained everything well."). He imparted his knowledge in a flash. Other guides can't be worse, at €12 per adult for 30 minutes.

Meanwhile, a necessary clarification: the castle, with a medieval appearance, was built between 1840 and 1842, while the foundations date back to 1388. Built by the great-grandfather of the current owner, Count William Von Württemberg, it is located in a fantastic position that steals the eye. A few dozen meters from the castle, there is a parking lot with a modest cost, just 2 Euros, while access to the courtyard costs 4 Euros, with a reduction for students. I believe that a visit to the courtyard is enough to fully admire the castle. Regarding the interior, the visit is only guided and in German, although, for groups of more than twenty people, a visit in English is possible.

Hello, does anyone know if you can view this castle and walk around it during covid-19? I understand, I may not be able to go into the castle, but can one go and take photos of the outside?

Hallo wir würden gern das Schloss besuchen, haben aber ein Baby mit 6 Monate dabei. Wie sieht es den auf dem Schloss und Außenrum aus mit Kinderwagen, kann man da gut laufen?
Außerdem interesirt uns auch ob es Wickel Möglichkeiten gibt?

The castle itself is closed in January as well as in February. You might only have a look from the outside. It is definitively worth visiting the castle even if it's closed.

Yes, there are guided tours in English at certain times of the day. There isn't much to see in the castle and the tour only took about 15-20 minutes. You can walk the rest of the property by yourself. The views are spectacular! There is also a restaurant on site in the building by the parking area and restrooms. There was also a sign for a restaurant uphill from the castle but it wasn't open when we visited. Hope this helps.

Does anyone have information on the local transportation to get to the castle? My son and I will be spending the night at Reutlingen and then taking a bus to Honau. I've read some brief descriptions of a trail to the castle that you can hike up from the base of the mountain. (Maybe a 60-90 min hike). Descriptions are vague at best. I'm trying to find out which bus # to take from Reutlingen to Honau, or at the very least - which bus stop to give off at in Honau, to begin up journey up the mountain to the castle? Any help would be greatly appreciated. We're leaving to go to Germany in 3 weeks!

Select the english flag
Select Surrounding area
Then Hiking Routes
It has the PDF file that shows a trail from Schloss Lichtenstein to Honau...betting you can just go the other direction. States it is 1.9km and about 26 minutes.
As for the bus, google this "Short Trips from Reutlingen
Trip Five: Schloss Lichtenstein and the Source of the Echaz"...you should get a really nice PDF file that gives you bus 7606 information and other good info on this trip.
