There is no way to convey the amazement of seeing so many penguins on every single part of the island. Nests everywhere and usually two chicks with each penguin and penguins climbing the mountain, it's indescribable. An absolutely mind-blowing experience of being amongst over 400,000 penguins.

It’s our 14th day of the 18-day trip.

Penguins. A few seals. Skuas who look for opportunities to steal eggs and babies.

Paulet Island is a circular island about 0.93 miles (1.5km) in diameter, 2.8 miles SE of Dundee Island, off the north-eastern end of the Antarctic Peninsula. It's composed of lave flows capped by a cinder cone with a small summit crater. Geothermal heat keeps parts of the island ice-free, and youthful morphology of the volcano suggest that it was last active within the last 1,000 years.
The large penguin colony, has 1.2 to 1.3 million mid-sized Adélie penguins, which only found in Antarctic continent, which was named after the wife of its discoverer Jules Dumont d'Urville (1790-1842). It was a rare endeavor when everything was named after the sponsors - usually their kings or queens.
This island is a popular destination for sightseeing tours.
The Adélie penguins' diet is mainly krill and fish. The water surrounded the island is pink from their guano, and is smelly.

One of them says, “let me see who’s here.”
S/he looks up at us, “oh, another group of tourists.” Then goes back to stretch under the sun, however common or rare.
The other seal says, “lets me go to intimidate the little penguins.”
S/he moves slowly toward the little agile Adelies. They look at the fat slowmo and chorus “oh we’re so so scared.”
Ha ha ha imposing my little world view onto them.

Penguins, Adelie Penguins, thousands of them, chicklings, adults, chasing, feeding, sunbathing and you are among them. Thousands swimming to the shore, Äthers resting on ice....
if you do like penguins this is the number one spot on the world for you.
Thrown in are a lot of shags and some other bird and mammals but this place is about penguins.

南極半島の北東端にある円形の火山島。イギリスの探検隊によって発見され、イギリス海軍提督の名前にちなんで島名が付けられた。海岸にはスウェーデンの探検隊が越冬した石小屋の瓦礫が残されている。
この島は頭が黒いアデリーペンギンの営巣地。海岸から山の斜面にかけて数十万羽のペンギンが群がっており、口移しでヒナにエサを与えていたり、トビウオのように海を泳いだりしている。少し離れた海岸にはのんびり寝そべっているアザラシも見ることができた。

I love Adelie penguins. They are such busy little creatures and have the most amazing ability to climb up to quite high levels on Paulet Island. After South Georgia, this was the greatest number of birds seen in one spot. Yes, they are smelly but watching their antics on the beach and climbing the hills is worth putting up with.

We have the chance to land on Paulet Island during our expedition cruise trip on 11 Jan. It was really smelly prior to landing. The place was filled with Adelie penquins from the rocky beach to the mountain top. Apart from penquins, seals, shags and comorants were also found on this Island. What a wonderful sight. Highly recommended.

We had a landing on Paulet Island from an expedition cruise with Hurtigruten. You could smell the island well before we reached it! There is a colony of about 100,000 breeding pairs of Adelie Penguins! What an amazing sight! There are also some shags, seals and a few other species. There is what remains of a hut built by the survivors of a Swedish exploration expedition, whose vessel was wrecked. The Adelie penguins are real comics and a delight to watch.

Once in a lifetime experience! Pictures cannot describe the scenic beauty-you have to be physically present there to appreciate the surroundings. Icebergs, Whales, Seals, and Penguins all around you.

Visited in December 2016 with Quark Expeditions aboard the Sea Adventurer. Quark is top of the line for Antarctic cruising. Paulet Island was amazing. We took zodiac boats over to the island from our ship. We saw Adelie penguins by the thousands (I believe our guide said there are over 30,000 breeding pairs on this island.) Great viewing of Weddell seals and amazing icebergs calving nearby.
