This place is just magical. A stunning house with a visual treat around every corner. We arrived quite early which I'd recommend because it was pretty busy by the time we left. Could've spent hours here, looking at everything, reading all the information but it was our last day on holiday and we had a long journey ahead of us. The gallery leading into the drawing room with the huge fireplace, wow that was just breathtaking. Would definitely go back. Found some of the information signs a bit difficult to read as was quite dark in places. The grounds are stunning so allow yourself some time to explore and also do the 6 mile carriage drive and if you are a walker then this is a dream come true. Cafe was nice, sausage rolls to die for, and there's a nice little gift shop too. The souvenir guidebook priced at £5 is a nice way to take in all the details and the history.

The estate is magnificent. We got there early as it opened so were first in-line to go in.
Such an interesting house and so many amazing things to see.
The gardens and estate are beautiful and you can drive around the carriage drive to the lakes.
The voluntary staff were very helpful and we had a great lunch in the cafe.

Amazing house and gardens. Spent so much time outside had to back the next day to go round the house. Staff were very knowledgeable and certainly added to the experience.

Since watching an Open University feature many many years ago we have intended to visit this National Trust property…we were not disappointed ! The site was impressively organised and the staff were outstanding. Add it to your ‘to do’ list immediately !

As NT members, we paid this place a visit today. I must admit it’s one of the nicest and prettiest NT places we’ve visited. Lots of parking & loads of walks. House is beautiful, never felt pressurised when walking around. Loads of information available in every room, with interactive areas too. The formal garden & outside spaces are magnificent, the views are to die for. The visitor centre and cafe were busy, but the staff were very attentive and cleared tables and replaced stock immediately. The 6 mile carriage drive is definitely worth doing, a bit tight in places, but you get a real sense of just how big the estate is. Will definitely be back soon.

Easily the best national trust property we have been to. The forest trails, lakes and gardens both formal and informal were amazing. The weather was overcast but just right for walking. The house is very impressive built by the Armstrong family and now run by the n/trust. It was the first house in the world to have electric lighting, water power for lifts etc absolutely amazing. There are cafés at the visitor centre and house and picnic areas around the park. Definitely recommend

This was probably our 6th or 7th visit to this property and it always lives up to expectations. We love everything about the house and could easily move in! Since we last went the property now has what they call "the carriage drive" which takes you all around miles of the estate in your car. Brilliant. Lots of places to stop off and view on the drive.
One negative - as usual there are lots of dogs everywhere and whilst we were enjoying a coffee in the courtyard we saw a number of them cock their legs up plant pots and even chairs whilst the owners made no move to stop them.

Really lovely house, this was our 2nd or 3rd visit, so much to see inside the house and the massive fire place in one of the living rooms is amazing. Don’t miss the kitchens there is so much originality, when the owners handed it over to the National Trust it was is they just walked out and never came back.
The grounds are huge with lakes waterfalls and bridges, on the way out you can opt to drive along the Carriage Drive which will take around 15 to 20 mins, very well worth the visit.
There is a large tea room which is quite expensive and service can be slow at times.

Spent all day here. Amazing house to look round this bit took just over an hour. Lots and lots of gardens to meander through. The labyrinth was tricky, roots sticking up through the ground and very muddy. Took a while to get out. But kids loved it. Slightly lost on road back and huge detour loomed as we were on foot. 25000 steps (yikes) kids not impressed. Recommend driving from carpark to carpark as it was a bit much for our kids

I understand there is bus service from Newcastle to Cragside, but is it possible to cycle there from anywhere nearby that has bike rentals? or are there other places to bus to Cragside, other than from Newcastle (which looks like a long bus ride)? We can stay in any town with good bus/train service, but we would like to have a whole day at Cragside.

Join National Trust. It's such good value. We pay £10.00 a month for both of us. You can then go to Cragside as often as you like and other beautiful gardens and houses as often as you like and don't need to pay. Cragside gardens are vast so you do need more than one visit to see them all. It is £20.00 each per visit if you are not a National Trust member.

They just ask your name at the gate. If you are on the list they let you in after seeing your membership card.

(1) Is it correct that it will be free admission to Cragside this Thursday and if so do I need to get a pass beforehand.
(2) Are dogs allowed entry into the gardens at Cragside.
(3) Is there a dog friendly area at Cragside where you are able to have a coffee. Thanks. Ann

I’m sorry I didn’t look. We simply flashed our National Trust cards. The web site says one single entry for house and gardens is £19.80 for a day ticket and Children £9.90. A family ticket would be £49.50. Doesn’t appear to offer grounds only.

It is free to National Trust members, I believe it is around £20 for adults and £10 for children otherwise, which gets you into the whole estate - house, gardens, grounds, lakes, carriage path etc.
