This place that you must see in Kratie for fresh water dolphins in Mekong River and take boat about one hour to go in conversation area, it is very nice and interesting places the you must see .

Things aren’t great in Kratie with tourism. Fair play to still being open. Great happy hour and the food is decent enough. There’s a pool and it was kept Rey’s to sky clean.

We went there with Mr Sithy, who speaks very good English. In the morning it was raining heavily. I was upset about it. However rain stopped at about 10:00am. We did it finally. What a lucky day. I walked around the shops and bought two cute dolphin key rings. After we spent about 1 hour on the boat and saw the adorable dolphins. It was a pity I couldn’t photo them. Every time they took breath only less than one second. Anyway it was so enjoyable to stay quietly on the river and hear the dolphins. Afterward, we visited the Sambok posada. Mr Sithy introduced us the history and the khmer culture about it. It was very expressive. Only one thing, on the way to the port was so tired. But it would not affect anything.
Very reliable guide, he will make your trip more interesting. Thanks for your service.
目前桔井还没有可以说中文的导游，现在很多酒店也都关门的，建议要去的话提前跟导游联系一下联系好住的酒店，对面的岛上可以起自行车我们时间不够还下大雨没去成，Sambok寺庙很不错，有台阶可以去走走，空气真的非常好，适合情侣家人游玩。

A must do in Kratie !
Nice day out to see the dolphins. Sithy, our guide, made the experience better thanks to a well organized mini-tour (including stopping off to taste local specialties) with information about the dolphins.

Très belle balade en fin d'après-midi sur le MEKONG, espace protégé, belle végétation et surtout, pas de touristes !!! sérénité garantie.
Nous avons eu l'immense bonheur d'appercevoir à différentes reprises plusieurs groupes de dauphins, un réel moment d'émotion même s'il est très difficile de les prendre en photos !!!!

A well organised fun day that was value for money .its nice that it supports locals in employment
I haven't kyaked for years we found it tough going for the first few hours but soon got into it. The organisers jumped into other's boats and helped take the strain..
Dont expect a close up but you will hear and see the dolphins flip and that's a bonus just being out doing something nice in a great group was worth it .
Thank you to the organisers for all the information and a great day
Special thanks to the young man at the hotel for all his clear help and the bus organised that took us on to our next destination on our return

Although there are no guarantees, if you want to see dolphins go to the zoo or a marine park,it is vital that you take this tour in order to support the dolphin watching business. Not so long ago these animals were hunted and eaten. Now, since recently the local community starts to realize that the dolphins are worth more alive than dead. Many fishermen have switched to dolphin watching. They are thriving but there habitat is in danger. I have seen multiple mothers with babies. The biggest thread is the dams on the Mekong river the chinese want to built. If this is happening they will all die. No danger to get seasick, you are not at sea. With a powerful zoom lens and a tripod you do not even need to get on the boat. You see them from the Mekong banks.

Together with 22 other Anglo-Thai Society members, my wife and myself are currently visiting Laos and earlier today whilst in the famous Si Phan Don (4000 Islands) we went on a 60 minute cruise to try to spot some of the increasingly rare Irrawaddy Dolphins in the Mekong River.
We did so without high expectations having received reports that there were less than half a dozen dolphins left in this particular stretch of the river. We duly set out in 4 boats (6 viewing chairs on each) and after some 15/20 minutes arrived at a spot where the engines were cut off and we floated hoping to see some of the dolphins.
Our lunch was in as there were quite a few sightings but, unfortunately, none of these were very close to any of the boats.
All in all, a most enjoyable outing but not something anyone should embark on with high expectations!!

La balade sur la rivière est sympa mais un peu rapide 40mn et les dauphins d'eau douce sont plus difficiles à voir que les dauphins de mer plus joueur

Did this at sunset and made for a really relaxing 75-90 minutes. Managed to see a handful of Irrawaddy dolphins, with a stop off at a beach to take photos and soak it all in. Really lovely experience.

No, You are viewing rare and magnificent creatures from a small boat while floating along the Mekong. I went near sunset and we stopped briefly on an island to watch the final sunset. Fabulous experience and a memory that I will cherish forever.

we did not hire a boat there but there are many companies and your guesthouse will be happy to recommend you a good guide. Or you can also ask the staff from Le Tonlé Guesthouse to assist you in booking.

We went in March and saw 15 different dolphins repeatedly at about 12 noon which is also said to be the wrong time of day.

is this place far from town? do we normally go in the morning or evening? or when is a good time?

It's around 15km away from Kratie - north of the town.
We were advised to go either early morning or evening as the dolphins are supposed to be more active during that time. Not sure if this is true but we went in the morning (around 8am) and it was perfect: we were the only ones for the first 30 minutes, it was cooler than being the full midday sun and the dolphins were indeed pretty active.
