Fort Wellington Upper Canada in 1800's

This little fort is not well known but has a great history of what is was like to live in 1800's in Upper Canada. Maddie was our guide and she is the reason I'm writing this review. It was apparent that she was very well versed in the history of settlers and she was able to field questions that were definitely not on her script.

Disappointing as could bot see everything due to staff shortages

Cute little fort in downtown Prescott. Visitor Centre was nice with the gunboat. Not much to see as upper levels of the clock house were not opening due to short staffing.

Cool Small Fort in Downtown Prescott

Old fort from the early 1800s, mainly used during the war of 1812. It is on the smaller side in comparison to Fort Henry in Kingston but it is still worth the trip. Currently undergoing some renos to the exterior. Great views of the St. Lawrence River

Walk in the Past

Let your self-guided walk begin at the Welcome Centre were you can find artifacts of the past and listen to a video.
Follow the path to the Fort were you will find staff greeting you in period costume. Tour the Fort into the many rooms and you will be impressed by communal living arrangements. Follow the path to the underground lookout. Keep an eye out for the Officers who daily practice loading their weapons. Listen for the Canons. You might be lucky enough for a re-enactment on the grounds of the Fort. A must see for the family.

I took my 9&11 yr old sons to Fort Wellington today. I am a history nerd and have been to many forts and other historical sites with my children.
I was very impressed with a young man named Wyatt who was full of information about Fort Wellington and the conflicts of Upper Canada.

A Good History Lesson!

This is a good stop for a history lesson as to life in the early 1800's while the Loyalists and families congregated to protect this fort and area. Be ready for lots of reading! ;-)

A Must Visit!!

We are historical reenactors and have wanted to visit here for years. This site is relatively small copared to many other Fort sites, but it is one of the best with regard to authenticity and portrayal. On the banks of the St. Lawrence, the original fort was meant for the War of 1812, but completed 2 years after the start of the war. It never really saw any action and was poorely constructed and parts subsequently deteriorated. It was rebuilt around 1837 with stone barracades and this is what you see today. The townspeople asked that it not be used for acts of war and never has been. The costumed interpreters are very knowledgeable. You can tour the buildings and get a feel for what life would have been for the soldiers and their families.

It really exceeded our expectations, very nice place, well preserved and the employees are really nice and willing to provide as much information as possible the price is really razonable, visit will take around and hour.

So, looking for a break on 6 hour drive, found this option, thought it would be a quick 45 minutes, but there over 2 hours, very interesting, kids engaged, folks there knowledgeable, lit of fun, thanks....

Beautiful site and worth the visit

From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with amazing customer service. The museum was impressive with an 1812 era shipwreck. The fort itself is well preserved and staff was so friendly and knowledgeable. Would absolutely recommend the guided tour - ours was amazing and ended with a rifle demonstration. We were blown away by our visit!
