We were looking for a place to stay in Iten and came across Kilima Resort which looked great on the website. We arrived and were greeted by a very sullen lady who clearly did not really want us there. She was quite rude. We think she is the owner. The grounds looked extremely messy and not ready for guests. We went to a few rooms to see them and they had a strange smell and were not clean. It seems like the place has fallen apart and is not ready for guests at all. We left quickly and found another place to stay in. I suggest Kilima either pull down their website or quickly renovate the property and find a more welcoming host to the resort.
I stayed here for two weeks in March 2021. I'd already stayed for three months in Iten, in a guesthouse in town. Kilima was a much better match for me. It's four kilometers outside of town through a forrest which is beautiful during the day but no fun to walk or cycle through at night. And I prefer to move under my own steam, so for me the motorcycle or taxi options aren't ideal. That meant that I had to be in before 19:00, which was ok I became a lot happier about staying in Iten when I moved to Kilima. Suddenly practical things were in order. Furthermore, the Kenyan/Dutch couple who run Kilima are fair and reliable - that's a treat when in Kenya. Meals are tasty and the place sits in the middle of nature. The night sky, when there is no moon, is incredible because there's no light pollution. The view is astonishing. I found a 7 km route down the escarpment to Kerio Valley, dropping down 1150 vertical meters along a small, rocky path. Much recommended. The owners can explain the way. …
