Overall i guess i was a bit disappointed with my stay at the Majestic. First of all it cost us a lot of sweat finding the place at first. As previous reviews stated, things havent changed over the year. No sign visible, the side entrance is under a different name than the Majestic. Best to call them up and get directions from them. Rooms were clean and spacious, and its fab to wake up and view out to San Marco. Breakfast is provided to your room which is also a big plus, as the breakfast room is very small (and was right outside our door by the way) Due to deep sleep i didnt think it was a nuisance to me, but some people might find it disturbing. The TV wasnt working throughout our 3 night stay, despite several requests to fix it. The best and most positive surprise we had was when we asked at the reception for directions to Murano. They provided a free trip to a Murano glass manufacturer, the receptionist just had to made a few phonecalls. We were driven there by a proper Venice water taxi, and upon arrival in Murano shown around at the factory (and of course its shop), but its up to you if you want to spend lots of $$$ on the glass there. Overall quite expensive, you pay for the location. But dont expect anything nearly as fancy as it might represent itself on the web at first.

In July 2004 we decided to have a romantic trip to Venice. We reserved a long weekend at The Majestic. Unfortunately, due to circumstances, we had to cancel our trip. Therefore I sent a fax to The Majestic, asking for a cancellation confirmation by email. The fax was sent well outside of the minimum cancellation time and I naively believed that a fax would be decent proof of our cancellation. You can imagine that I was surprise to see the sum of 300 Euro (2 nights) deducted of my Visa card in August. Even if they didn't get my fax (doubtful) they should, according to their website, only have charged 1 night. Obviously, I filed a complaint at Bank Card Company (Visa), and now more than a year later I'm about to get my money back. The reason it took so long was that hotel The Majestic refused to give in. I find that hardly customer friendly, and in fact quite unforgiveable. I would urge anyone to think twice before reserving any room here, especially with a credit card. In the meantime we've been in Venice and I can assure you that there are plenty of nice hotels without having to take any risk with The Majestic.

We stayed here for a romantic break (when my husband proposed). The location is great, but the drawback is the noise from the streets below and the church bells ! I bought some ear-plus which helped a bit. It is very hard to find, but very nicely decorated and the rooms very comfortable and clean. It is tiny and has the feel of a boutique hotel (minus a funky bar etc). It has a small breakfast room. We had booked a superior room - with view of the square and when we arrived we were shown to a standard room. We complained and were told that the rooms with the view were out of bounds by the fire brigade....When we asked for lower rates, we were told of a rate that I clearly remember had been cheaper on the website when I 1st looked at the hotel. I cannot recall who we dealt with now, but one man was very nice and another was rather rude.

My family of four was recently on a month-long European holiday. And we stayed at The Majestic during our stop at Venice primarily because of its location- it was situated right beside the Basilica di San Marco. Easy to find right? Wrong! I went to the spot were pictures on the website where I booked this hotel showed its location to be and found no 'the Majestic.' The website added: it's easy to find, "all venetians know it." Well, I asked a lot of people around the block where it was located and nobody seemed to know that the hotel existed. Even the clerks at the tourism office looked puzzled if there was such a hotel. I finally asked a man who owned a shop right beside it who finally showed the hotel's door. There were no signs bearing its name outside, just a small 6"x6" gold plate beside the door. Unfortunately for us, we arrived at a time when it was freezing cold and drizzling. It was hard to keep a positive outlook when you see your 4 year-old shivering for about 45 mins looking/asking for the place. Our bad luck continued when we found out that the rooms were all in the third floor and there were no elevators. Having to stay in Europe for a month, each family member had a big luggage nearly 20 kg each that I had to carry up the stairs myself. Can't expect the missus and my 4 and 8 yr-old kids to carry these themselves afterall. No bellboy to help you either. The saving grace however was its owner whose name escapes me at the moment. He is an old man who spoke good English and kept asking if there was something that he could be of further service with. Unfortunately, he wasn't there all the time. Other family members, not as gracious as hosts, would take turns looking after the place. The worse thing happened on the day of our departure when we had to leave early at 8am. Normally, no one was around at night. And on this particular morning, no one seemed keen on going to work. The consequence, besides not getting any breakfast, we missed our flight altogether. It would have easy for us to just leave without paying, but our conscience would have none of it. Its a pity circumstances like this could ruin your stay and your perception of a place. The hotel after all had excellently furnished rooms, was conveniently located with shops and restaurants around, had a hospitable host (or at least one of them was), and offered good value (breakfast included with rates). Could have been a gem...
