One of the things that I mostly liked about our stay at Condes de Azevedo Palace was the great location once that it's located in one of the most Oporto historic places. My wife and kids loved it because we could walk and easily go everywhere. The sightseeings are amazing! About the Palace itself everything was good since the staff that were super friendly and helpful. The atmosphere, the apartment/rooms decoration, cleanliness and comfort are near the perfection with all the things that we need to cook and do some home meals. The breakfast was tasty and had everything needed to start well the day.
Nameless & Odiferous with Palatial Staff The building is a former mansion / palace at the midway up the hill looking down into Porto. It's not the most prime of locations, but it is adequate. If you have people who have trouble walking long distances (elders / kids), then keep that in mind It was sad to see that the owners were attempting to low-ball customers and staff, despite the large prices to stay at the palace. The establishment, which could have been very nice, had very few staff on-site who were responsible for everything. So if the staff member had attended to some duty, no one is around to help. Pros + Rooms (at least ours) were very large and adequate + Within 1 block (100m) of a couple minimimarts + On-site parking + Fantastic staff, though limited in quantity Cons - Almost impossible to load / unload because not well-marked and no staff available to assist - There was always a salty or sometimes noxious odor coming from the bathrooms and drains (I can imagine old-world Portugal does not have proper drains etc, but considering the prices charged and the tourism aspect, Porto should fix itself up) - Premises seemed unclean if one looked close enough, but they were spraying scents to masquerade the lack of sanitation - They had said they would stock / re-stock certain items which did not seem to be the case - Dirty towels and pillows - Breakfast was sparse, but fresh orange juice was nice; Breakfast area also had odors It's hard to say if any other establishment was better / worse because the quality in Portugal from a cleanliness or staffing perspective was poor for commercially run outfits. It only appears that family-owned establishments in Portugal take pride in their businesses…
everything was perfect from pre arrival to departure - staff, location, breakfasts and the room. We could not fault anything and would especially single out the charming and helpful staff on reception and in the breakfast room.
