The Grand Imperio is a nice hostel in Baños, ideally situated near the city's central square, on the corner of two busy streets laden with tourist agencies on all sides. Food and transportation, including the city's bus terminal is all in the immediate vicinity. The hostel presents itself and has the look of a small hotel. Rates are very affordable and the rooms are simple but sufficient. Clean linens, clean floors. It's a little rough around the edges but it is a nice stay. The wifi was not the best but it worked when needed. There was a TV in our room, and storage space for our belongings. There is housekeeping which is great if you want it but you have to let the lady know in advance. There is also convenient gated parking space belonging to the hostel. Our room was roomy, we called it the penthouse, self explanatory, and it had immediate access to the terrace which is where they do also do laundry for the guests. Smoking ;) is permitted in this terrace which is great and convenient and safe. The view during the day from the terrace is stunning on all fronts and it really made us feel like we were in some luxurious hotel despite the fact that it is budget. All in all, the Grand Imperio sells you the feeling of wealth and convenience despite its affordability. The only thing I think it could improve on is the wifi connection which was more than just spotty as well as having someone at the desk more constantly. Many times we'd go downstairs to ask for something and the caretaker would be in their adjacent suite watching tv or something. I mean, one gets the hands-off approach but it can be a little disorienting. Nevertheless, we stayed 3 nights there and would probably come back if looking for a convenient, affordable option in the heart of it all.…
