This is our fourth time staying here while exploring the Eastern Sierras. The place has been extensively upgraded both inside and out since our last visit in 2019. We like the new paint color. In my previous review, I mentioned the soft towels and I'm glad to report that they are still the softest of all the places we stayed during our two-week California road trip.

The room was unremarkable, but quite adequate - clean and comfortable enough. Everything worked, and the TV channel selection was good. WiFi worked well. The place did look a bit tired, but as I say, it all worked well enough.

I was expecting a basic roadside motel given the reviews and the price. It was one of the few places with a room left in the area. So imagine my surprise when I got there. Friendly staff, lovely rooms and a location that was just right for Lone Pine and the surrounding area. This may not be a resort or a flash named brand hotel, but that should not detract from the place - it was a beautiful surprise and I am so glad that I was able to stay there, even if only for a few nights.

Not sure why this motel doesn't have more/better reviews?! Granted, it is not a "resort," but if a resort is what you are looking for then anywhere in Lone Pine is the wrong place (try Jackson Hole). The staff/owners were incredibly helpful in dealing with a changing itinerary, various needs from family members (e.g. additional towels, umbrella at pool, medical services), etc. The location is good/walkable to anything and everything in Lone Pine (any motel in Lone Pine is walkable to anything else), it sits on the southern edge of town, but is surrounded by the Museum of Western Movies, a skateboard park, the admin office of the National Forest, and McDonalds so there are plenty of safe surrounding uses. Food in Lone Pine is surprisingly good and expensive. This is definitely a hiker/backpacker-type city along the mountain trails and the Trails Motel is a great option/resource. Plus there is a pool (it is small, but feels great on a 100+ degree day).…

This 1950's style motel is an inexpensive base to explore nearby Alabama Hills and Death Valley NP. It is too bad that the management is unfriendly and not people oriented. They are obviously not enjoying their chosen occupation. Better people skills could have made up for a front door that was difficult to open. My husband had to constantly put his shoulder to the door to get it open. A towel was badly frayed. There was a single bar of the coarsest, cheapest soap I have ever encountered in a lifetime of hotel/motel stays. There was no room service. The motel room was clean, but bare. The parking lot was cramped. You always felt that someone might back into you, or you might back into them This was more a function of the motel's fifties vintage.. All of these annoyances could have been smoothed over by a more customer oriented attitude. Instead there was an attitude of total indifference.…
