A great place to visit, and have Mahaprasad. However, we lived in the Guest House which needs to improve a lot in terms of accommodation. Bugs on the beds at night were the most annoying. Being close to the temple, the place is very noisy. Moreover, our visit coincided with Kartik Purnami day and thus found the Temple extremely busy. Does not have the required capacity to serve Maha Prasad on a day like this as we had to wait in a very long queue and then finally gave up.
The boys serving the Guest House are very nice and extremely polite. The Breakfast is good. If you wish to have lunch / dinner in the Guest House, you may have to pre-order and come early, otherwise, you may miss some of the items.
The Guest House does not have a display of check-in and check-out timings and for this, you need to be careful, otherwise you may land in paying extra as it happened for us paying an extra day charge for checking out at 4 PM. We checked in at 1 PM and stayed there for 3 nights. However, we paid for 4 nights.

Had to stay at this hotel during my February trip to Koraput. It's just an average hotel with not so much to offer. The staff was average and even the food . Other hotels are also available nearby. Overall I would rate this hotel as an average one.

Dear friends,
After a long time I back with my wonderful experience in KORAPUT in the state of Odisha. Koraput is blessed with lust green valley, waterfalls, caves, tribal festival and handicraft mella and lot other things.
We have 17 members in our family ranging from 4 years child to 75 years old. The trip was planned since last 10 years but for different reasons we could not make it. However in Nov-2015 I have planned this trip to finalize it for 3 days itinerary starting from 28-12-2015 ending with 30-12-2015.
We have advance booked 7 double bedded rooms with ATITHI BHAWAN a hotel in koraput having decent double bedded rooms with attached bath. I can tell you it is the only hotel managed by the Jagannath Temple at koraput with quite affordable room tariff. Tariff rate Rs.300/- for non-ac and 500 for AC per night. The Hotel has its own restaurant offering delicious veg meals (without onion or garlic) in reasonable rate.
One or two issues which we believe can be improved in the Hotel like smart house keeping boys and online booking window. As of now the hotel requires advance booking to be made on money order or draft favouring “ ATITHI BHAWAN”. You can en-quire over phone on room availability. The hotel is situated in the heart of Koraput town just below the majestic Jagannath temple known as SAVAR SRIKHETRA which is on a hill top.
One more thing ATITHI BHAWAN has no facility of any breakfast or snack items. For your breakfast I recommend you to try at the road side restaurant just opposite the Hotel. An old man sitting behind the counter will offer you hot tea, vada, idly, Puri bhaji, upma so delicious but so affordable. Anybody going there must try it. The roadside joint is a tiny tiffin centre since 40 years and opens from 6 A.M to 11.A.M only. Food served here are pure veg even without onion or garlic.
At this point I will mention one young man a car driver “BABLU” (contact no-9437375426). This is why because in our 5 days stay there I found this man as so helping and a boon guide to us. I got his no from the Hotel but even today almost 15 days of our visit I am still in touch with him and I assure you that you will be in safe hand while you are in koraput if you are accompanied with BABLU like man. In one of my uploaded photo you can have a picture of him at KORAPUT railway station.
Anyway let us come to our visit.
Day-1 Sunday 27-12-15 we have started our journey from Bhubaneswar by Hirakhand Express at 7.25 evening .
Day-2 Monday 28-12-2015 reached at Koraput by 9.30 morning greeted by bablu with his 2 nos SUVs. That was the first time I have met with Bablu though I have talked to him over phone on several occasions enquiring the places to visit. After introduction we proceed to Atithi Bhawan and after completing chech-in formalities (boring job for 7 rooms with 17 members), we entered into the rooms. Rooms are quite nice and comfy with hot shower. What extra you need for Rs.300/- bucks.
As per our plan and after breakfast at the roadside joint (already told you)
we proceeded to Gupteswar Temple which is 80 km from Koraput and in dense jungle.
Coming to Gupteswar:
GUPTESWAR TEMPLE
Important cave shrine of Lord Shiva situated on a lime stone hill on the bank of river Kolab, surrounded by natural Scenery. The sacred Lingam called Gupteswar, literally meaning, Hidden God, is also popularly known as Gupta Kedar in Chattisgarh. Shivaratri is the major festival which attracts a large number of visitors.
The visit to the temple inside cave is a life time experience and do not miss the other attractions nearby like “ GUPTA GANGA” (HIDDEN GANGA) & SIDI TO SWARG (STAIRCASE TO HEVEN). The places have their unique charm. In gupt ganga you find water drops are falling from the roof of the cave without any traceable source. Similarly the sidi to swarg is narrow road moving inside the hill leading to its pick. The entire area is surrounded by thick forest and local tribal are the pujaris of the temple.
We have our lunch at a roadside hotel and found the jain foods of rice, dal, mixed veg, pampad, chatni, paneer with chaana etc at Rs.50/- per head. This dhaba called “MAHADEV HOTEL “is owned & managed by one of local person with all his family members & working in State forest department.
Once in Gupteswar you are not able to connect to the outside world as the area is the criss cross of Chattis Garh, Odisha & Andhra and no mobile connectivity is there, so ensure all your priority talk must be ended before you reach there.
Around 6.30 P M we are back in our SUV s and reached koraput around 8.30 p.m.
Next day according to our plan we are ready for a picnic at Duduma waterfall or machkund river.
! Good Night !
Duduma Waterfall, Machkund
Day-3 Tuesday 29-12-2015
Bablu has his strict instruction. Do not delay as we have to travel around 90 km and the roads are sometimes patchy. But as usual arranging 17 members with ladies and children we have only started at 9.15 A.M and reached at Duduma around 1.30 P M. Bablu has arranged all grocery and other cooking arrangements before hand and in a few minutes we have spotted a beautiful place nearing the flowing river and unanimously all decided to camp there.
The majestic waterfall, also known as Matsya Tirtha falls from a height of 175 meters. A hydro electric project with its winch developed amidst deep greenery is a place for pleasure. Three KMs away from Duduma waterfall, a small village of Ankadeli draws the attention of foreign tourists to its weekly markets on Thursdays where the most primitive tribe the Bondas, come from the remote, inaccessible dense forest. Jolaput is known for its newly constructed dam reservoir. The lake formed by the dam is 68.2 Sq. Kms. It is a picnic spot, 88 Kms from Koraput.
We returned around 7.30 in the evening and the day ended there with a nice touch collecting all memorable events during the travel and thereafter.
Day-3 Wednesday- 30-12-2015
I have a plan to visit 2 places on our last day at Koraput i.e Dumuriput & Deomali Hills. Dumriput as I heard is famous for kneeling Hanuman statute and sriram temple a village stands between Koraput and Sunabeda by the side of NH 43. But as per Bablu’s views it appears impossible to cover both the places as we have to reach the station by 4 P M and train is scheduled for 5.25 P .M. So I changed the plan and started for Deomali hills.
Deomali hills
Deomali peak, with an elevation of about 1,672 metres from sea level, is the highest peak in the state of ODISHA. It is situated close to Doodhari village, 35km from Koraput. You will be in serenity once you reach at the peak. The area is also known for its huge bauxite and other minerals. But tribal population has denied access to Mines Company to protect the greenery. Visit the place at the earliest as who knows when the industry people will start their mines project & lush green valley will be turned into a desert. The beauty of the hill range and picturesque 5km-long flat surface atop the mountain, where an ‘m’ shaped peak can be spotted, would leave a lasting impression on a visitor’s mind.
The best time to visit the hills is either during summer or winter. Only during the rainy season, tourists can face problems due to bad roads at certain patches.
Deomali is 60km from Koraput and one has to pass though another small town called Semiliguda on way to the peak. You can have your stay there and experience wonderful food at one restaurant named as “ C N C “ .
Anyone interested in the tribal lifestyle can learn a lot from the nearby areas in Deomali as tribes such as, Kandhas, Parajas, Bhumia, Malis and Bhotras, reside in the adjoining localities.
The journey comes to an end like all other good things but leaving behind its impressive charisma and natural habitats.
A matter of caution”
Naxalites in the area are very active. But do not make any adverse impression as they are very friendly to tourists and as per Bablu no such incident has ever heard in my 16 years of driving. People often come here to find the true spirit of their origin i.e nature and nature and nature only.
Why are you waiting then, come summer your stay at Koraput will be an unique experience to be cherished in your entire life. In summer Koraput will offer you its cold breeze soothing you mentally and physically.
