Firstly all the restaurants see a tourist coming and then they charge you a fortune for food! Be prepared to be ripped off! And only found 1 place in the town that serves cold drinks! Hotel is not like the pics. It's old, stained sheets, wifi doesn't work. Air con does work which is good, beds are decent and TV works. Manager was good enough to give me a bit of money back for things not being up to scratch which was nice but the damage was already done.
A nice hotel very close to the beach, not particularly luxurious but it is clean and comfortable. A good budget range hotel with friendly, helpful staff. Just cross the road and you are literally on the beach, lots of good seafood places to eat along the beach. Also try the steamed filled rolls from one of the mobile sellers, they are a speciality in this area and only cost 10,000 vnd, very tasty!
I was there for several nights in the off season (September 2014). One night I was the only guest. The facility is nice enough, but the manager, Thang Tran Dinh is just a great guy. He was eager to speak English, and was quite an asset for advice on where to go and what to do. He even showed me around Vinh for a bit on his day off. I had mentioned that I liked fried spring rolls so we stopped at a small local place for some. Damned if they weren't extraordinarily good. TLDR: No complaints about hotel. Manager is great guy.
On our motorcycle journey from Hanoi to Saigon, we stopped in Vinh for one night. The Bank Star Cua Lo Hotel was one of a number of resorts built for the high-season in summer. We rode through Vietnam at the tale-end of winter, so the costal community was a relative ghost-town. The room was comfortable and we paid a great price, because it was low-season. The room had a fridge, great hot water, a television, a balcony and some rather hard beds - which we slept on, as we were exhausted from the ride. The man at reception was helpful, ensuring that our bike was parked securely for the night. He also suggested some good food close-buy. We walked up the street to a food-vendor who made us a fantastic duck soup with all the trimmings. They also do barbecued duck. One of the best meals I have had in Vietnam...Truly traditional. From the front of the hotel, you turn right and walk up the main road for about 200m and it is on the left-hand side of the road. Due to the distance that we rode that day, we should have stayed in the city centre. However, this was well-priced accommodation that offered an individual experience.…
We were very impressed by the courage of Mr. Tran Dinh Thang (sales manager) who helped us to claim back part of an overpriced lunch invoice. He took us on his own motorbike to the restaurant in question and discussed with them although he was afraid of their reaction. Really an outstanding service!
