I used Lower Grays Meadow Campground as my base of operations for two days of hiking. The campground and toilets were the cleanest of any campground I have stayed in in the last thirty years! Eggy was the camp host and he is doing an outstanding job. Will be back again next year!!

Nice set of campgrounds next to Independence Creek, most spots had good flat areas. The Campground Hosts were awesome, nice, friendly, full of information. The toilets (vault style) were the cleanest I have ever used.

Spent 4 days there with a tent. We had a spot close to the creek and loved its sound (also protected us from the occasional noise from the road). We also had enough shade from the nearby oaks. Other spots are much sunnier and may get very hot during the day. Very clean toilets. Negatives: There were no showers (went to Chevron in Independence and paid $5/person) and the tap water was brownish.

The campground is well situated in the foothills of Sierra mountains. If you follow the paved road, it leads to the top of the mountains to many alpine lake and waterfall trails. The campground itself is very clean, and most sites are partially shaded. Some though are quite small and you might have to put your tent up on the pavement. There is water, but no showers.

Two loops. Independence Creek winds along perimeter. Great, ample campsites. Lots of shade and sun as you wish. Crowded weekends (reserve) but wide open during week. 2000 feet above hot valley floor. Cool summer. Golden age pass good. Great spot to spend time or use as base for hiking in Sierra. About 7 more miles up Onion Valley Road to Kearsarge Pass Trailhead. Wonderful.
