We stayed here for a couple of nights. The initial impression of the site was not promising. However we had no problems, although the quality of the ‘hard standing’ pitch was questionable. It looks like works are underway to improve the static caravans. With regard to the fishing itself - although I had a couple of days of a good number of sizeable carp, roach and bream, there was clear disfigurement to the carp. The vast majority had deformed mouths. As far as I could see there was no-one checking tackle, tickets or drinking in the pegs. I have never seen so many fishermen drinking so much beer and cider - maybe it’s me…
I am a local to this fishery and have walked along the river bank for years to get to Idle valley and for years had no trouble, but then new owner put up fences and barbed wire and barred locals causing lots of bad feelings and has now even welded the gate shut,so good luck and will be monitoring his camping guests in the summer for noise.
The site is lovely, lots of space and well set out. I caught 5 carp on two smaller lakes. One fish was in shocking condition, two were in poor condition and ond was slightly damaged, only one looked normal, not disfigured, maimed or damaged. The lakes are overfished by ignorant anglers and overstocked so the fish are always hungry. If they were mammals kept like that and abused, the place would be shut down. How do you reconcile commercial fisheries with fish care? Obviously this place is getting it wrong. Fish should be returned, not kept in too small nets, only barbless hooks rule should be enforced and kids should be supervised. Any obviously damaged fish should be removed and rehomed in the wild or in enthusasts ponds where not subject to angling. I fish a lot. I like fishing, but the condition of those fish shocked me.…
Was going to stay on site for 6 months for a work contract staying in the caravan through the week, paid £1600 up front, no confirmation slip though. Site was behind a tip and stunk, the caravan was put on a hardstanding but no water tap as promised, the pitch booked did not exist and the roads were terrible wrecking the suspension on the car. The site is only interested in fishermen for easy money. Anyway, the agreement was the owner was going to move me to another site he was buying but he refused too answer calls when I queried the date of the move. Found out he was not getting the new site so I moved the caravan and went elsewhere after 15 days, I asked for money back minus 15 days and got told to email. This is when fun started, got told eventually I could have £800 back, it's cost me £800 to stay for 15 days, when I got quoted the contract I was sent, they even got that bit wrong. This site is terrible, they rip you off and do not care about you, your caravan or your welfare! Be aware. This is written as a truth not just anger, I am warning you in advance.…
Greeted nicely in the tackle shop. He explained where to find the field to pitch. Found a nice little corner spot. Site is clean enough. Toilet/shower facilities OK. Lovely view from our tent over the pond. My only grumble is the noise at night from what I assume is a factory. Not noticeable during the day but very noticeable at night. So if you're a light sleeper it's probably not for you. We had a fab weekend though.
